ok, i dont know if this is the right area to psot this but...
i am COMPLETLY new to game makeing. my friend and i are going to make a fan game off another ( were not gonna play it, jut be tween us 2) but i dont know waht type of software to get! it will be a first peron shooter, and we nee to be able to mae the characters and not just download them, to make them look the the real characters from the game. and we need aliens. ( no, its not HALO. but it be fun to make a Fan made HALO game....)
So any help WOULd be aprreicated...

first, u need to code an engine (or buy one) then u need a modellor and learn to model, then u need a texturing program =P

Yeah you need a modeller (blender is free) and a image editor (gimp is also free). Then you need a compiler to actually put everything together.

You can use Dark Basic or FPSCreator or a million others. Blender can actually make games as well but it's not very easy to use (I don't think anyway).

free: dark gdk, blender, gimp/paint.net and turbosquid's free models

costs: dark basic, 3ds max/mudbox/maya/ac3d/milkshape/a million others, photoshop/paint shop pro, turbosquid
