Hey guys,

I've just had to recover my system as a windows vista update crash caused it to fail. I'm not using the recovery disks i burnt at the start of getting the laptop. I have reinstalled everything and got to the point where i should be entering my data. I now get what i believe to be a constant loop of a message saying; "Finalising Windows Install, Please Wait" or something like that.

I am going to leave my computer on overnight to see if it ever gets off the screen. There is one other possibility. The computer made me burn discs. Before this screen it ejects the final disc that it has used, but doesn't ask for any more. I think that it may still need this disc so I'm trying re-entering the discs again.

Does anyone have any information on this problem?

Just wait until Win7 is released and install that onto your system. So much better than Vista!

Try ubuntu. It's a free operating system and very easy to use. You can even download it onto a USB stick and boot from it without changing any settings on your computer. The only problem is it doesn't fully support DirectX, and TGC products won't move to OpenGL, so most TGC games wont run on it. But if you can't go without a computer, I recommend you to install it.

Do you have a Windows XP installation CD? That would also be a wise choice...

@Arenas:
It might be a faulty hard drive if it fails completely because of an update and then the installer doesn't work.

Im not sure its the computer, its only a month old. I downloaded all programs i needed, saved them externally and then wiped the computer so that i would have no viruses on the downloads. Now i dont need to download anything major again onto my computer so im not at as much risk of a virus.

Anyway, my computer works now. It was just a waiting game. Two days!!!!

I got blue screen of death while updating windows vista, then BSOD kept popping up every few minutes while running the computer normally. Luckily I was able to run system restore and now everything works fine again.

I've had many more problems with vista than I ever had with XP.

Maybe I'm lucky, I don't know, but I've never had any problems that I could confirm as being the fault of the OS throughout all the time that I've been using computers.

Personally, I scan everything I download from the internet and delete it instantly if it turns out to have a virus, no matter how small or insignificant it is.

99% agreed (both XP and Vista had some issues that were their fault, but very, very rarely). It is almost always user error.

There are so many problems with that statement...
