In DB it looks great, textured and stuff, but in DBPro it's just black and there are no animations, yes there are some, but they just don't look how they should. What's the problem. It's not my DBPro but it's also when I run the exe-demo of the alien. Is it DX9b?

It would need DX9, yes. Looks okay when I run it here, what graphics card do you have? You trying to load the 3DS or X version? (although that won't make any difference re: the demo).

Cheers,

Geforce IV: 4200. Thank you for your quick reply, that soon after the newsletter and stuff. And I even forgot to tell you, well it's never too late eh. Great work Rich!

EDIT: I load the .x model btw. The 3ds doesn't even work...

make sure you have the most current Detonator Drivers...

best for Dx8.1 are 43.09 best for Dx9.0 are 45.23

but the latest drivers always have the most current bug fixxes

Spider - post a screen shot from DBPro of what it looks like "corrupted" if you can please so we can compare to what it should look like normally.

Cheers,

Rich

I'm now going to sleep... I want to add one thing tough, I'm running the trial, but it's not because of that. It's just with the exe, but not wit DBClassic. So how can I solve this? Thanks in advance.

Hmm, you could try and set ambient light up to 100, I've had a few problems with ambient light set to weird values, so you could try it.

Whatever I did I didn't do it!

Did you update your video drivers? You said you had dx 9.0b but you never said what your nvidia drivers were.

I have exactly the same problem with my Gainward Ti4200 Card. I have Direct X 9.0b installed and the latest detonator drivers.

I am really clueless ?!?

Oh btw. i use the alienware demoversion too and have exactly the same screen as RTSpider. The animations do not seem to work too. When using the 3ds model the programm starts and after one second stops without comment.

What exactly do you mean with changing specular levels? I am new to DBpro.

I use W2K prof. and the 45.23 certified drivers. DX 9.0b

I found out that from other .x models with show up fine in other programs(Blitz, DX-Model Viewer) the colors and textures (materials) are not correctly displayed too.

Must be the Alienware Demo Version i think.

For those that have the black shadow models...

Please answer these questions in detail..

What is your OS?
What is your processor (CPU)?
How many Megabytes of RAM do you have in your computer?
What is your video card?
What Version of the video drivers are you running?
What Version of Direct X do you have installed? Go to START, then RUN and type DXdiag.exe to find out.

If you are using Windows XP, do you have Service Pack 1(SP1) installed? If you don't, try using windows UPDATE to update your system with all the windows patches and see if it works.

I have exactly the same problem as RTSpider.. and to answer DMXtra, here are my specs:

What is your OS? - Windows XP
What is your processor (CPU)? - AMD Athlon 1600+ 1.66 ghz
How many Megabytes of RAM do you have in your computer? - 512 mb DDR
What is your video card? - Asus v8170 magic Geforce 4 mx (yeah yeah.. still everything worked fine before patch 5)

What Version of the video drivers are you running? - Newest Detonator
What Version of Direct X do you have installed? - 9.0b

Another thing i've noticed about U5 is that Kensupen's directx-model-as-a-map instead of bsp thingy doesn't work anymore. It starts but as soon as you walk into a wall you bounce around for a couple of seconds before you fall out of the map. But it worked just fine when i hade patch 4 installed.

Release the farbror in you!

Thank you all! The good news is that I'm not the only one, but that's also the bad news... Here are my specs:

What is your OS? - Windows XP Professional
What is your processor (CPU)? - Intel Pentium IV 2.4 GHz
How many Megabytes of RAM do you have in your computer? - 256 mb DDR
What is your video card? - Geforce IV: TI 4200

What Version of the video drivers are you running? - Newest Detonator
What Version of Direct X do you have installed? - 9.0b

Alien Demo Works on my system
Iwas able to achieve the same result including having animated shadows by adding a command hide object 1

Try adding "Show object 1" prior to main loop

just in case your system is defaulting to setting object to hidden

Thanks Codger, but it didn't help . And with hide object 1, the effect was something different. Withouth it the object was visible, withouth texture and animation, but solid black. And with hide object 1, you saw the object kind of ghosted.

I think is the Geforce4 Ti 4200 that causes the problem.

1) I notice it seems to be only happening on Nvidia cards so far that people have listed.

2) It seems to happen with the latest drivers 45.23

3) Has anyone had this problem with 45.23 and Beta 2 of Patch 5?

Try this:

SET OBJECT SPECULAR objno,0

I think the default specular level is too high and might cause some problems. Make sure the texture maps are in the right place too - you could even load the texture map as an image and texture your martian manually to make sure. I would be tempted to make a backup of the alien demo, then go through each anciliary command and rem it out and run each time. Just trying to weed out the part that causes the blackness - Pay particular attention to light setups, shader effect and the shadow shading, they're the most graphics card sensitive parts of the demo.

Pentium2 266 / 256mb ram / AL400Lx / GeForce2mx 200 32mb / Windows XP Professional no-updates / DirectX 9.00 / DetonatorFX 44.04

Athlon 900mhz / 512mb ram / KT133-B / GeForceFX 5200 64mb / Windows Professional no-updates / DirectX 9.01 / DetonatorFX 44.04

no problems on either machine, i've also run it using 45.23 whql & 45.24 beta neither show this problem.
There are no problems using the SDK versions of DirectX, nor older versions of Detonator...

the exe of the alien ran fine, and the code of the alien ran fine in the 1.05.2 beta & 1.05.0 retail

my guess would be to look at DirectX as the possible cause, or more importantly look at the options you've set in the nvTweak panel.
Also make SURE you have the textures and thier named right and in the right format within the directory. There is a chance your not actually loading the texture with the model which would cause this problem ... however i'm not sure how it'd turn off all lighting effects.

I have now tried with SP4 of W2K. Still the same problems. What make me wonder is that in all other Programming Suits it loads corrctly?!?
Could it be that there is a rule for DBpro how you install things? First install SP and then the drivers or first install the drivers and then the SP ? Must try this in the evening!

I have exactly the same problems. No textures (can't even assign new ones) and no animation from the alien.x.

I did a little test regarding this: I loaded the alien.x to JTEdit, saved as a binary .x file, loaded that to dbpro and KAZAM - textures work correctly . Unfortunately JTEdit doesn't support multiple frames in objects.

Here's my system:

Scrap that. It seems that JTEdit DOES support multiple frames. Which would mean that at least this works for me: Saving the .x file as .x binary in JTEdit.

lol i still can't believe that.. a model for a DBP comp that doesn't load in DBP! what would prompt them to make it 3DS anyway? why not DX7 X? DB1 and DBP can load those..

stop looking at me!
