Basically, do I have to use functions like dbDeleteBitmap and dbDeleteSprite to clean up everything I have created, or does GDK (or vc++) cleans up and frees memory upon program's exit, so that windows and other programs could use it?

I believe that windows will generally handle this by itself , but it is recommended to clear it manually via code to be sure.
