Well, after much debate with myself, I decided to go with the creepy/dark side of Halloween. The original idea was inspired from silent hill, and grew to what it is now.

Here's the concept/template of the creature design:

and this is how far I am currently:

What do you guys think?

That doesn't look so bad. Its a work in progress so I can really judge much. With the right textures you can pull this off creepy.

Got any other angles of it? The hind legs looks a bit bulky though.

@ Zak: I feel the same way about the hind legs, I'll be messing with them once i have the full thing blocked out. I'll post more angles once I have it fully blocked.

@ Dreamsenshi: Sorry, it doesn't atm. But, I should have one for it by the time I finish it. Else it's just gonna be called the creepy creature.

I am really taking my time to get the model to look just right. hopefully I will have enough time after that to actually make a texture for it.

Well, it certainly is that! For some reason, I keep on expecting an eyeball to be inside of its mouth in my imagination. :} A *big* one.

Well, I finished blocking it out, and took a bunch of screenies to show you guys. I'm just gonna put direct links instead of actually posting to save space.

Cool! It looks even better than I thought he would! From behind, reminds me of a mutated version of the monkeys from The Wizard of Oz. heehee. Lookin' good! He seems a little rigid right now, but I bet as you go on that will be less the case.

Well, I am finished with detailing this guy(I think/hope).

Here are some links to more screen shots:
Iso - http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp205/machtroid/Isofinishedmold.jpg
Side - http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp205/machtroid/Sidefinishedmold.jpg
Front - http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp205/machtroid/Frontfinishedmold.jpg
Back -
Face - http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp205/machtroid/Facefinishedmold.jpg

The coloring is just setting up for the texture, since I am doing it in two parts, instead of one.

It probably looks rigid because its symmetrical right now. I am hoping to have enough time(after UV mapping and drawing the texture) to be able to give it a basic walking animation in order to let it strut it's stuff.

If I sound like I know what I am talking about, then I most likely have no idea what I am saying.

It's cool to see it coming along from beginning to end. Keep it up!! An animation would be really great if you have time for it. Seeing how something moves definitively gives it additional character.

Well, I actually managed to finish UV mapping this bugger(didnt help that TrueSpace decided to break a couple times). just thought I'd give you an update. Here's a tip I just learned: don't try to UV map something that is High poly and expect it to go quickly . Though, I did decide to do a little vert cleanup(went from 20-something thousand to 14 thousand). But, it's still huge. guess this guy wont be used any time soon by me.

On to texturing, a more fun part for me

Well, I guess the texturing took less time than I thought, but I am pretty much pleased with what i was able to manage.

Here are some pics of it with the texture:

Iso - http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp205/machtroid/Isotextured.jpg
Side - http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp205/machtroid/sidetextured.jpg
Front - http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp205/machtroid/Fronttextured.jpg
Back - http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp205/machtroid/Backtextured.jpg
Head - http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp205/machtroid/Facetextured.jpg

I do admit it may be a little sucky(I cant tell for sure, since I'm the one who made it), but that's as good as I am right now. Next, and last up, is to give it some movement.

P.s: I actually only applied a single layer of SDS, then cleaned up the crazy edge count(although I still have a ton there)

I'm pretty new to creating models myself, but I like the touch of bloodiness on him; made a HUGE difference.

IMO u should give the *body* (basicly anything wich isnt bones or teeth(wich is bones)) more of a texture =P its just plain coloured it seems like^^ Great model and texture otherwise^^

I agree about the body texture, but have no idea how to spruce it up, some suggestions would be great. it just feels too plain, like you say. I do want to keep the fleshy look to it, though.

Thanks for the compliments and critics.

Here's an expansive library of free textures someone else on TGC linked before. Seems like it could be useful for a creature like him:

thanks for that link, will definitely help later.

So my "little" friend got hungry and ate a couple people, now he's all messy:

i also made his skin more spotty with an overlay, think it helped?

Definitely. I'd want to make it look a little more chaotic and drippy, but I'm not sure how to do that. I think, however, if he was moving, it'd look just fine and you wouldn't be able to tell that it isn't dripping. Either way, it's a definite upgrade to the creepy guy.

Then, after a little bit of extra tweaking(i dint like the splotch on the forehead for some reason) to the texture, i can now say that i am done with texturing for sure this time, and now on to rigging

thanks for the great comments so far.

Well, this little tyke is finished, including a basic animation. I'm gonna post still images here for you guys to see details, and post the animation in the contest as my entry.

Here you go:

Side - http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp205/machtroid/Sidefinished.jpg

Back - http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp205/machtroid/Backfinished.jpg
Face - http://i412.photobucket.com/albums/pp205/machtroid/Facefinished.jpg

Thanks, once more, for the great comments and bits of advice. Hope you enjoyed watching this guy move from a flat image on a piece of paper to a moving beast.

Add a little dirt to make him look a little more realistic.

If it hasn't exploded yet, I haven't touched it.
