I have already started, as well. Should be my best, and most complete, game ever. I can guarantee you that I will finish in the top 1000 entries! (Unless there are more than a thousand entries, at which point all bets are off... )

Currently I'm programming my "insurance". This was my original idea for my contest entry, but as my ideas grew, I realized that it'd be safe to enter the original idea first, then work on my other ideas.

im gonna try to create an entry but if any knows me they know my lack of sticking power. Ive got some bits designed on paper, the title is currently "Saving Private Orion" its an rts like commandoes, well more like syndicate wars but with the level and stealth emphasis of commandoes.

keep the addiction healthy

i want to enter, but im not over shure,

i don't see the point in entering a game, if a hundred other people have entered another game based on the same idea.

if i can think of a slightly unique game, whilest keeping it addictable and whilest keeping it makeable within 3 months, then i'll enter. whether i think of one or not is another matter

i havent even thought of a genre yet, just that a platformer or a sim wouldn't be bad.

at the moment im just looking at the games i have, and wondering what would be a very kewl game, like a game with abit of Civilization, C&C and Sim City.

Anyway, as i said, no idea
Is there anyone out their who has started? (apart from the dr)

"i don't see the point in entering a game, if a hundred other people have entered another game based on the same idea."

In this case we actually have a lot more freedom than some of the previous contests. Personally I mostly use the contests as an excuse to get motivated, sometimes with work and everything else it is hard to find time to just code on my own, even though I enjoy it so much.

i meant out of the lets say, 1000 entries that there is going to be, 500 of those will be fps, 300 will be rpg, etc.

i meant i was going to wait to see if i had a bright idea before i started on the project, instead of just doing a clone.

iv'e actually thought of an idea within this time, and it isnt that bad, maybe i'll post some of it up later, once iv'e put more pen to paper (well, finger tips to notepad).

its going to be a strategy game, you could say a clone, but i havent seen much like this. maybe you'll find out later if i decide to go ahead with this one

yeah so the prize would end up in the hands of the best person to IMPLIMENT that idea ... you've always gotta be willing to push against the crowd - you never know you could beat out some of the more seasoned guys & gals here.

-- -- --

i'm making a platformer, maybe ... the game idea is comming along daily lil by lil - whether i choose to actually do it is a different matter though. Gonna create the main characters atleast i think, possible Ed's ride and i've already got a pretty realistic human model that i finished for something else - could alter that into a scientist and Soldier.

Still not sure howto go about the control system, especially with the gadgets.

So really my stuff is at a planning stage, where i might do something, i might not - not even sure if i wanna enter, just have fun creating a game with the character is enough for me.

-- -- --

remember there's like a million genres, FPS, RTS, Click'n'Point Adventure, Platformer, Racing, Strategy, RPG, Flying, Space, etc...
personally i think if someone could pull off a simple Startopia that would be good, combine a Strategy with just the need to create to an objective rather than an allout war.

i dunno, the ideas are endless really ... you could have a game where you've to fly around abducting cows without the farmer shooting you down or running out of time, possible with a few more obsticles in there.

or maybe you could make an air hockey game where the aliens spaceship is the puck... or you could make a football sim where all the players are these little alien guys. that would be pretty cool if they all had like little ray guns and could violently attack the opponent, perhaps make it a bit more interesting like a speedball clone.

just takes imagination really

Heheh, the alien spaceship as the puck.
Hmmm, maybe I'll have the alien dressed up as a hockey player smashing all the human players in the wall.
Well, only problem is gonna be time. "Whatta ya mean yellow, we got 3(maybe 4) months?"
It'll be close, that's why I'm going for a very simplistic approach that will just require loads of animations. I'm still pretty sure it'll be fun, and give the other entries a run.

Go ahead and give it a guess.

Somebody's gotta win, and everybody but one person has gotta not win...

...but that's not a very nice way of looking at it.

Remember that even if you don't get a prize, you will get loads of people looking at your game if it's even on the top 50 list, which might very well help your reputation . This competiton is good for everyone involved...

and no its not as bad as it sounds, it will feature band slike van halien, talking alien heads, heuy lewis and the aliens, INalienXS, Vanilla alien, wall of alien voodoo and cindy alienauper. the aim of the game is to add lights and select waht songs you want to cue up, and choosing camera angles to get the crowd to dance. the story is aliens have come to earth for one thing only....... TO THROW A BIG AMERICAN PARTY! EVERYBODY DISCO DANCING HAVING LOTS OF FUN!. But yeah you gotta manage it to make the audience happy. and maybe me as a pirate may make a cameo appearance. patent pending!

Man, there are so many ways of playing this out. The MOST important thing is to design a game that can be completed by the deadline. Grand ideas that don't make the cut are not even in the running. It seems like FPS games are going to be swamping the contest, so that is one genre I'm not even going to consider.

Since I don't have a machine that matches the test machine, I'm tempted to write a board game so I don't have to worry about speed issues.

You do get the upgrade... if you bought from DBS there is a sticky topic about it in the CShop forums. And if you didn't post a topic over there.

I certainly got an upgrade.

Hehe, alien space ship as puck

One thing that surprised me about the competition is that they didn't release the Alien in 3D Canvas Pro format as well, you would think that they would seeing as it would encourage people to try 3D Canvas out if they haven't.

I know that I would have, I generally use Milkshape 3D, however the problem there is that it doesn't import animation from either .3ds or .x format, so if I want to work with the model at all I'd have to re-create its basic animations.

It just seems to make more sense, from a marketing standpoint, to include the 3D files in a format that you currently are selling from your site!

Well, EgoAnt, If you recreate some anymations, could you do one for me ? (or better said : for all of us)
This Alien shall curl himself in some kind of foetal position. A bit like a Hedgehog.
No, I'm not doing a SONIC-remake !!!

No, it shall be rolled on itself, like some swimmer, who turns in the pool, when he reaches the edge.
