People,

I am currently runng dbp with 4.1 patch, DX9.0b, and Detonator 45.23 (latest) - all is perfectly fine.

I want install DBP a second time in a diff directory and apply patch 5.3 to just that install and see if I have all of the problems I have been reading about, as I am interested in many of the new commands in 5.

My question is: Can I do this without screwing up my original version with 4.1? Can I apply the patch to ONLY the second version without harming the first?

Thanks

the patch is automatic, you run it and it detects DB and installs and removes files on it`s own, so I think it will be risky to try, if you had dual boot you may be able to do it, say if you have win98 and XP or something, a lot of people do nowdays.

Go ahead and install P5, everything will work fine

If you're worried, make a backup of the projects directory. However the patch should not alter any of your work

Theres no place like 127.0.0.1

If 5 gets all screwy can I roll back by reinstalling 4.1 or blow away dbp and start fresh?

Yes - just run the DBP install wizard and select "repair" to roll back

(ps - P5 will not get screwy)

Theres no place like 127.0.0.1

Well it DID get screwy, no textures would load in BSP files, I had to follow what APEXNow said about exporting the used texture images from the wad file to the working dir as TGA files. Now the textures load but the lighting is darker than it should be.

thanks tho.
