I don't know how many ppl know about this site but i was browsing the web and came across this http://openmw.sourceforge.net/jaws/. It's a open source morrowind project (for those who don't know what morrowind is this is the site for morrowind http://www.elderscrolls.com/home/home.php.) I think this is a nice project.

Seen this before, seems quite solid so far, hopefully has the option to do more customisation on morrowind.

Brilliant.

But what's the point?

I suppose it provides something of a framework for other game engines and it allows Morrowind to be ported, but it's a lot of work considering WINE is very mature (it can do Oblivion!) and plenty of game engines, open source and commercial, exist.

If you want Morrowind with a physics engine and shaders... uh... Oblivion.

The point is to have more features and control over the game (for instance maybe some one may want to make it simular to a sims game)

So... it's a game engine. Game engines already exist, and they're not based on partially copyrighted file formats.

It's called a fan game. People do it all the time. Some are amazing. Some are pure crap. Why do it? Because it's fun, you learn a lot in the process, you have more control...

Most fan games have original content based on the ideas of the game, making them similar in many ways but still different. This uses the content that comes with Morrowind so in a lot of respects it won't really be a fan game.

I think it's amazing that someone could reverse engineer a whole game engine. I hope they get the combat right because Bethesda, this time, didn't.
