I didn't know that Windows 98 crashed at the press release! That's hilarious!

The Gates does not look amused. I wonder who got fired over that?

I always love that youtube movie... But I also feel kinda sad for Gates ... Nah, more love than sadness I think.

Moving right along!

Man I feel old now! I actually remember playing with Windows 1 when it came out. I worked in a computer store at the time and spent a fair bit of time tinkering with stuff like this. Of course, Windows wasn't really much of anything until Windows 3.1 and the earlier versions weren't much more than DOS menu systems.

I was ~3 (If I "remember" correctly) when I sat on my brothers lap to interact with a PC for the very first time. Three years old!

I had no idea either until I stumbled upon it last night. But no problem.

I would be a bit weary of that video, purely because some of the dates are completely wrong (e.g. 1985 for NT 3.5 - yeah right! ) not to mention stuff like Chicago are just codenames for releases (Chicago is Win95)

I'd never even heard of some of the windows in that video. Windows Longhorn? I actually really liked the look of Longhorn though lol.

Longhorn was Vista's codename. Initially it was based on XP but then it was silently scrapped and rebuilt atop of 2k3.

They should have left it based on XP, it looked cool. It would have been a bit more stable, too.

I think 2k3 server is more stable than XP. But as far as visuals go, XP looked ugly until you turned off the "fisher-price" look.

So that's what it always reminded me of! Lol, yeah, when I got my own user account on the family computer, I immediately went into settings and changed the theme to "Windows Classic", and changed the colors to "Marine" or whatever it was.

For some reason a bunch of MS' Windows codenames are named after mountains in B.C. Whistler, Blackcomb, Longhorn... apparently popular ski mountains for the staff

Trust me: be glad it wasn't based on XP.

They are, actually. The higher-ups take vacation there quite often, from what I've heard.

Security. One of the biggest complaints with XP was "oh no, virus" or "oh no, malware" because of the lack of effective permissions, redundancy, etc...

Athlon64 2.7gHz->OC 3.9gHz, 31C, MSi 9500GT->OC 1gHz core/2gHz memory, 48C, 4Gb DDR2 667, 500Gb Seagate + 80Gb Maxtor + 40Gb Maxtor = 620Gb, XP Home

I haven't had any problems with windows so far (from 3.11 to 7). Sure, sometimes it would freeze itself for like what, 10 minutes and that's it.
Guess I'm just lucky?
