Here it is, the BIG FPSC competition #2! Get cracking and any questions then please ask (as I'm sure there'll be some. )

THEME
This years theme is Nuclear Fallout, it probably hasn't escaped your notice that I've been talking a lot about FallOut3 (check it out on YouTube to see why!) and also doing some tests on how well FPSC can handle something like that so I thought why not build a game around the same theme? Well, here's your chance to create your FPSC version of FallOut3.

You can do an outside or inside or both! Which ever takes your fancy. I've been testing a few levels myself and you can view the results in this thread: http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=158549&b=25 and is also mentioned in this months newsletter. There are no restrictions so you can do whatever you want and how many levels you want as long as it's nuclear themed.

There are plenty of old planks, rusty cars, junk, rock and abandoned buildings around to have a go with and attached is a rar file with some screen shots just to give you inspiration.

Good Luck.

1st Place
* Bonanza Pack + Character pack + Any 3 model packs + 2000 store points (as one prize) by TGC.
* Printed & Bound copy of the Community Guide.
* Atmosphereic Sounds pack by Nickydude.

* $20 Store Voucher by KeithC
* Pick of 2 tools from the FPSC Toolbox by Bullshock.

Additional: Hador has kindly offered prizes to add to the list, 10 free CUSTOM daemonic voices for third, 15 for second, 25 for first. Please note that these are not offered as official prizes and neither myself or TGC will enter into any correspondance about them, this must be sorted out between Hador and the prize winners. Prize winners can contact Hador at hador1996(at)gmail.com

JUDGING
Judges will be looking for the best take on a nuclear fallout level and also how well it plays as a game.

Overall Look
Does your game look like it's set after a nuclear war? Or is it some segments bolted together with a few buildings? The better the look, the more the points.
Game Play
Is there actual game play or are you just wandering around?
'Outside the box'
Does your game have something unusual? Is there something there no one has thought of? what gives it that 'play again' factor?
Frame-rate optimization
how well does your game run? Are you using tips and tricks to get a decent frame rate or is everything running slower than a snail with cramp?

RULES

|- This competition will end Feb 1st 2010.

|- ANY version of FPS Creator can be used that can run on XP, Vista & Windows 7, including modded. This does, unfortunately exclude X10 as the games won't run on XP.

|- Minimum number of entrants for the comp to go forward must be 5.

|- You may use custom media; to include entities, segments, sounds, music, and scripts, etc. Just remember that all the levels will be made public once the competition has been judged, and a decision has been made public.

|- There will be NO stealing, pirating, or unauthorized borrowing of media/music/or scripts to be used in your level. If this is discovered, you will be automatically disqualified and possibly banned from the forums. If you're not sure if its OK to use someone else's material; then the best thing to do, is not use it. If you do use someone else's material, then you must have WRITTEN permission to do so (unless the permission is given in the license agreement; i.e., free for 'commercial or non-commercial'). Forging written permission will also result in punative action.

|- Your level must be in an installer or a 'built' game (either zipped or rar'ed); no .FPM files will be accepted. The file size limit is 200 MB;

| - There must be a direct link to your entry. Links through a website or where you have to register to download won't be accepted.

|- Remember that the forum rules still apply; in that there will be no nudity, or swearing allowed. Either of those items present in your level could be grounds for disqualification (an attempt to contact the designer may be made, but is not required).

|- The judges will NOT enter into any 'heated discussions' as to why you though yours was better than other entries.

A big thanks go to all those who've sponsored this competition and a special thanks goes to BiggAdd for the amazing banner.

Cool beans, I am going to enter.

Hi, it’s Robert with Stealthmod! You’ll be saying Stealth every time you use this mod! It’s like CoD! It’s like L4D! It’s like BioShock. A regular mod doesn’t work good – this works good and great.

Are teams allowed to enter, or would it just go under one name? If so, I think I might enter. This prizes list intrigues me.

At least I can go with a scifi theme for this one! Count me in as an "on-call" contestant.

Hopefully I won't be too distracted to whip something up for it!

You can do as many as you like as long as it's under 200mb.

Quote: "i found it confusing, which one is the right date?"

There is an error about the closing date in the newsletter, it's February 2010, not Dec 31st. This is to give you enough time to create a game instead of just a quick level.

If any media from the web is free for commercial use (like CGtextures or wikimedia commons) I hope I dont have to identify it piece by piece, but that it is enough to simply write down in the readme/license that all media is free for commercial use.

Apart from that, I will enter the comp and I am looking forward to start working on my game

PS: Funny enough, I got Fallout 3 GOTYE last week and simply cant stop playing

Woot! You could not have picked a more perfect theme for my creative mind

I'm doing a clean install of FPSC so everything is nice and tidy for this project. It will probably be the last major project I do in FPSC - not that I've finished most of them

But does the level actually have to be playable as well as having a goal?

Foobar, there goes my plan to make a level that runs @ 1FPS in a week(Custom content, hurr).
Next question, can I fake my entry so that it's made in a more next-gen engine and that you believe it was made in FPSCreator? :3

Just to make clear for this competition. Your entry has to be a game, just just a good looking level design.

COUNT ME IN!

The prizes are awesome, but I'm doing this for my own fun. Good luck to all contenders! One question, my game is fallout and post apocalyptic based, but it's in a city setting. Is that still ok? And where should I upload the game when completed?

You can use DBP to edit the FPSC source code, but I'm pretty sure a pure-DBP game can't be entered.

Now, to clarify for others - can X10 be used? I don't plan on using it, and I assume that by "any version of FPSC" you can use it, but the judges must then have an X10 capable computer which is why I ask.

@Nickydude, 2 questions:

1.
Does it specifically has to be a post-NUCLEAR WAR setting? Or are other post-apocalyptic scenarios also allowed? Like earth after a giant meteor impact p.e?

2.
Does it have to be the *exact* near future or are alternate timeline scenarios also possible? In fact Fallout is set in an alternate future that is mostly a 50ies setting. A post-war/disaster scenario in a Bioshock setting (=20ies) with bond1's new pack could also yield interesing results
