[Update] New demo released, improved a few things and cleaned up the code. Check it out.[/Update]

I was laying in bed a couple nights ago, and suddenly got inspiration for a game that is a combination of the retro game Asteroids, the fun game Gradius and add an upgrade system to boot.

This is what I have so far:
- Unlimited Survival Mode
- persistent options
- persistent High Score table
- Fully customizable controls
- limited power-ups
- segmenting asteroids
- change "world" settings for fully customizable gameplay
- player system
- Enemy system
- upgrade system
- map editor
- level system
- better sound effects
- background music

Right now I have a complete demo available. This is basically the current survival mode with options and custom key mapping capabilities. You can download this below.

Sorry about not having any music in the current demo, but I haven't decided on what audio style I want this game to have yet.

If you wouldn't mind, it would be nice if you played it to post your FPS and computer components so I can see how this game runs on other systems. This has been compiled on Vista, and hasn't been tested on XP or 7 yet, so it would also be nice to know if it works on those.

C&C is encouraged.

Congrats! You get the 'Works-On-A-Windows-7-Home-Premium-32-bit-Edition-Computer-containing-the-worst-specs-in-history' award!

I got an average of 35 FPS ish on my Celeron D 3.3ghz, integrated 3 year old graphic processor (Radeon xpress 200 for Intel).

I found it quite difficult to shoot due to the slow firing rate. Then again, I've never played a Asteroids game where you had to shoot manually. Then again, I've never played an Asteroids game.

I love the collision bounces and slides and all that, but it took me a while to get used to the controls. I'm not saying you should change it, but I'm just pointing that out.

I say it has a pretty great potential. Good luck with it!

Well, after a great deal of sorting and work, I have managed to clean my code up a bunch so that it should run faster. I also added a few features:

- Medium speed Autofire when fire key/button is held down
- Asteroids now have a health/shield bar above them
- Friction and max speed can now be altered in the options menu
- Options menu now accessible from gameplay by hitting pause
- smoothed friction, giving a better sliding movement

up next is to add some enemies with a simple tracking AI.
