Sorry! This is not a puzzle or a riddle but a genuine question and yes I know it is WAY off topic but I have no idea where to start looking for info.

In January 2005 (plenty of time to gather info) I need to transport two cats from Cyprus to England.
I will be driving with them in my car getting a Ferry from Cyprus to Italy then driving to France before getting a ferry to England.

They have got there innoculations and they both have British Passports(!) and microchips but my main concern is the countries in between. Does anyone know if they need to enter quarantine at every country they enter or is it just a paranoid anti-rabies Britsh thing?

I think there should be no problem, because all the countries you have to cross belong to the Schengen area. So they couldn't anything if your cats have these British-passeports.

Schengen area? Forgive my ignorance but I have never heard of that - what is it?

OK never mind. A quick Google search and I have my question answered and would you believe it - the United Kingdom is also part of the Schengen agreement but only the parts of the agreement that suit them - typical Brits!

Hmmm, the whole thing is pretty complicated : mostly political.
You can find informations here :
http://europa.eu.int/scadplus/leg/en/lvb/l33020.htm

Example : One thing they do is regularizing the immigrant flux. If a guy from Mali wants to live in Belgium, and enters the Schengen area through Spain, this guy shall go back to Spain to fill the necessary papers there.
(I wrote this example, because I thought it was something very near to your query) Oh, yes, this example was simplified : In fact it's not as easy as I described it.

Not really

There are advantages and disadvantages to letting people into your country wihtout showing passports, and for the UK the disadvantages outweighed advantages.

Imgain how many smugglers / illegal imigrants have been caught when a faulty passport was found?
With schengen they wouldn't have needed to show passports and may have 'gotten' away with it (and they would have if it wasn't for those meddling kids).

Theres no place like 127.0.0.1

That's not totally true, I know some people who wanted to settle here in Belgium (in the Schengen area), and they had to go back to the country were they entered. And they had to show the passports and other papers to the administration. They really had a hard time.
Don't think I'm protecting illegal immigrants or smugglers, but I know how their children are in my classroom. (And it's surely not funny for them)

Likewise - if you're in Limassol you can usually find me in the 'Ship Inn'. If I'm not there the bar staff will know where I am

I'm usually hanging around near the massive primary school(of Ayios Andreas) playgrounds...there are good football fields there...
