Is there some way to create a "heat wave" effect, i.e. some kind of pixel shaders?

You would have to make the shader yourself, and I'm not sure if it would work in FPSC x10.

There is a heat wave effect , you can find it in the level bank as a level , I cant renember where the effect was though You attach it to a entity and it makes is refract

I dont think a heat wave effect would be possible without coding it into the x10 source which cant be done since its a closed source.

It could be done with some decals I guess, when a player is far away it changes texture to a heat wave one, and when he/she gets closer it will turn into a blank one.

Use a window with a refraction effect.

You currently cannot use shaders on decals. I thought you may have been talking about wibblyrelief, but I knew that wasn't a heat wave thing.

Or... use a wibbly relief with a flat object that has a nearly transparent texture and collision off...

That wont work , For some reason x10 cant display transparent entities (Well , this is what mine does with the invisible wall I downloaded)

Use paint.net, create a new pictue, erase the white space. Throw in some squiggles or some thing with a transparency of like 70%. Save that and use it as a texture, should work.

well , just make the whole image a alpha channel but having a texture would be cool aswell , try making it a normalmap when doing it aswell
