not sure if this is a 2D or 3D question, but I'm wondering how to make sprites navigate & interact w terrains (the Terrain documentation I've found is pretty "Dark")

just have a sprite on a terrain, I guess. ( I don't know "the way a game works ". )

I found some code that seems to map screen coordinates to/from terrain coordinates via camera state, but its in a programming language I'm unfamiliar with.

One of my classmates suggested it might be in the language of the underlying graphics-engine DGDK is based on, w wd raise the question: "Can native graphics code be passed thru DGDK to the underlying engine?".
