can huds be mad with Photoshop? If so, can they have a transparent background so that only the text shows, not the color around it?

Yes, as long as the background is totally black underneath the text, and the hud image.

did not work for me, I made a black that had 0 r,0 b and 0 g, but it still showed up as a black box around the text. I also tried to take stock hud and bring it into photoshop with a similar result.

Try transparent. I modded the frags file so that it shows a skull instead of saying frags. Of course I told the script to read frags2.tga and placed in frags2.tga and frags2.dds into the proper folder. I did make these files have transparent backgrounds and they work perfectly fine for me. So try transparent

Mugen is the name pal, Ya got that?

Yes. The two textures which do the best transparency (as not all textures allow transparent) are DDS (Direct Draw Surface) and PNG (Not Sure).

Yes, they can be very mad...

They can be done with photoshop and Paint.NET or even microsoft oaint, but... Yeah, you know paint.
