Silent Falls: Origins
2009 Ultimate FPSC Contest Entry

Developed by
Kravenwolf (2D and 3D Artist, level designer)
Hockeykid (Programmer)

Background
A biological outbreak originated from a secret military weapons facility twenty-five miles east of Silent Falls devastates the rural mountainside community. When news of the outbreak relays to our government, the town is immediately quarenteened, and those unaffected by the virus are left for dead.

An elite Special Operations Team is dispatched to Silent Falls against all orders to perform a series of S.L.E. missions S.L.E; Search, Locate, and Extract. Upon route to the town, a distress signal is intercepted by your helicopter. The rest of your team will insert into the town as orderd; you, however, are being inserted into the marshlands five miles south of Silent Falls to attend to the SOS received.

"A deadly outbreak...an unwinnable circumstance. The beginning of a nightmare."

Note
I found this on my computer from the Ultimate FPSC Competition a few months back, and decided to give it a shot in the showcase board. The weapons are missing their textures, but I no longer have the .fpm files, so I could'nt fix that problem without rebuilding the entire game (which I have no intention of doing). Despite that minor inconvinience, I hope this game can remain in the showcase board, and I hope anyone that gives it a try enjoys it.

Actually you can fix the missing textures by copying them in the built game's gun folder.Good work btw.

Wow looks amazing. Except the name is very similar to Silent Hill: Origins.

Unfortunately, that doesn't work because it doesn't override the .dbo/bin files.

Yeah, we finished the game about an hour for the deadline, so I gave it the first name that popped into my head. I guess I had Silent Hill on my mind at the time

If you delete the bin/dbos and replace them with x/fpe files then it should still work. The engine should read the originals in the absence of their replacements.

Downloading now, I'll let you know what I think of it soon

Kravenwolf, love the walk through. Downloading now.

Can I post this on fpsFREE in the games section? I think it's the best zombie title so far.

@Airslide, thanks, I might have a look at fixing the guns' textures.

@xplosys, sure, you can post it on fps-files. And thanks.

Kravenwolf,

I assume you meant fpsFREE.com. fps-files belongs to Templar.

Oh dear, I didn't notice this! I was making a swamp level myself! Is that ok? But this looks amazing!

Nice Game Kraven, I remember grabbing this on the UFPSC Comp entries thread . Awesome until the ending which was a tad confusing and anticlimactic
I assume you were maybe running behind then?
I hope to see more games from you in the future, you're horror style is very well done and a great inspiration

Keep up the great work!

Adrian,

I doubt that Kraven's copyrighted swamp levels now, hell, I've become addicted to making them now xD. Still, I can't make it as constructive as Kraven's, swamps are very difficult to make, when you want them to look realistic .

I don't understand! How do you make such awsome levels!? The lighting's perfect, the scenery's perfect, how do you do that!?

Only problem is that why are the enemies mummies? I think Bond1's zombies are much more suited for the atmosphere/storyline.

Great job though, hope to see more!

Just played it,
it is awesome!! i love it!!! But it would help lower the wandering around for a long time by giving a little more direction on where to go but then again thats what makes a good suspenseful by not knowing whats gonna happen next.... 4/5 at least!

Because I personally don't think it's worthy of BOTB status, so I never submitted it to Keith. The second and third levels were rushed to meet the contest deadline, and I never did get around to fixing the missing textures If I do ever get a BOTB badge, I want it to be for a project that I'm happy with, and not something that was whipped up in a few hours for a contest.

I like it! If only the FPSC gave recoil animations to the enemies this would actually be considered a medium-quality FPS game! (Considering the engine's capabilities that's actually really difficult to create without mods ^^")
