Get yourself a field recorder. This is what I'm currently using: http://www.edirol.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=332&Itemid=390

It rocks, the sound quality is so good it's scary. Along with a Canon digital Elph, I keep it in my pocket at all times - you never know what kind of cool ambient sounds you'll be around. Plus, it uses AA batteries, which is much more convenient than the built in battery my last recorder used.

It uses SD cards for storage, and it also has a USB port. So you can either plug in a USB cable, or use a memory card reader. It records in both wav and mp3, so it's just a matter of drag and drop.

Great for recording ambient sounds as well as spot sound effects. It's lots of fun - I record all kinds of stuff, you never know what you'll end up needing. Just get the free Audacity or some other audio editing software and you'll be all set!

Meh. I'd say the price isn't that bad for something like that. I actually might look into it.
