Anyone think the cockpit takes up too much screen space here?

I don't mind it, but I'm sure others won't agree.

No, i dont think so just as long as there is more detail in there. like guages and details about the player. good luck!

Well, it does look like it takes about 50-60% of the screen. It could be annoying if it wasn't utilized correctly. As Master Man Of Justice suggests, guages and details about the player would definitely fill what i would consider non-game-space. Maps, weapons, speed, fuel, time, etc. would all be good things to place in there. The design is neat and the level(?) in the background looks pretty cool as well with the long bridge/pipes going across the horizon.

There's something in this room that makes you can't speak well.

Thanks guys. The cockpit will be filled with various gauges and whatnot. Right now I'm just trying to figure out if people prefer something that takes up less screen.

I would kind of enjoy the claustrophobic feel especially if it's going to be like a ,,, mech type game? it would be cool to have two arms as guns and just shoot all to hell that would be awesome even a flight simulator (which is what i think your going for would be fine, but if it is a flight sim have options for 3rd person and cockpit)

Its going to be a game which includes "mech" types of units.
The aircraft usually don't have a cockpit as bulky as the one ("mech") in the pic, they're more like fighters.

TBH I would reduce the diag bars going across the view, they just restrict the view. In a real aeroplane, you don't use the guages too much but judge it from the horizon/nose position

Thanks for the input on the bars.

One of the first things you are told when learning about flying is to always trust your gauges, especially when flying over large bodies of water.

Speaking of instruments, I was thinking that the player would need to look down a bit to see the cockpit instruments. I have a HUD system in place so the player doesn't need to take their attention away from the fight, but think that more detailed info and controls would be implemented with the instruments.

Sorry for the big image. Quite a few HUD items haven't been implemented in code yet such as weapons display\status, target damage, etc.

But games put too much emphasis on the instruments, my instructor told me that you do use your instruments but eventually you can just level the horizon, etc. just by looking out of the plane

I sensed a sexual induendo here, i was slightly dissapointed.

For the cockpit youv show i suggest something more like the 'Y' bracers. It looks good, but its too clutered for a action game.

Its not perfect but it would still give you the strength and the ability to have dails and what not around.

LOLZ @ lazerus yes that view would be more appealing but i dont suggest you make a new model, just move it back and edit that bottom part down a pinch (like lazerus said) and there you go best of luck to ya

Darn, too bad I didn't think of y-bracers before, that would look really good. I'll keep that in mind for my future cockpit model designs.

Not willing to change this particular cockpit because it took me a while to create.

Looks like the amount of screen any other cockpit in a game I've seen takes up.
