In valve hammer editor. I can create a map. I then place a light entity in the map. If i place it one side of an object, a shadow will be cast. (permenant). If i dont light a room it will remain dark.

Is this poosble to acheive out of bsp.
can i set ambient light 0 and create a load of lights manually.
will it cast shadows like on a bsp.
also will i be able to create enough lights?
I have decided not to use a bsp map dues to space and the fact that i wont be able to access wad textures and other resons. so i want to make a level using a .x object. and i want to hav all the liht fectures of a bsp map. i doubt this would be possible.
thx. Another question. In cartography shot. Can i have a bsp map and have the textures hanging around loosly or do i have to have the textures in a wad file.

TerraByte, just a couple of suggestions but in Hammer, you can set the Ambient light level by providing an extra parameter into the HLRAD.EXE program that is used to create the lightmaps. When you build the BSP using F9, add the parameter:

-ambient r g b

..as the last parameter of the LIGHT program in the advanced dialog when you press F9. r g b are values between 0.0 and 1.0 for red green and blue ambient light levels. So, for fully bright levels, you would use -ambient 1.0 1.0 1.0 and for slightly lit, you would use -ambient 0.3 0.3 0.3. Unfortunately, ambient light doesn't create ahaows.

Hope this helps.
