Hello, everyone!

im making a character for a game, but im having troubles with animating legs/ hands, i dunno how should i do them, take a look here:

the model is split into 7 parts, which are:
1- jacket
2- chest and arms
3- legs
4- shoes
5- head
6 and 7- weapons

i want to move the arms, and the jacket moves with it, i can't animate the vertices of an object, i can just animate the whole object, so do i have to split arms/jacket in order to animate them? if so, when i do it, it goes like:

what should i do?

EDIT: using 3ds max

Redo the entire model and make the jacket part of the mesh, and texture it like a jacket.

when it's part of the mesh, animating it will still cause some problems, kinda similar to the second picture

first question that should have been asked was what modeling/animation program are you using. once that is answered some one could actually help you. although from the looks of it if you are using max i am probably wrong on this but it looks like the way you weighted the mesh to the bones. i use cinema 4D so im not positive on this. but thats kinda what it looks like. possibly your bone hierarchy, but like raven said you should make the jacket part of the mesh. it makes animating easier.

i edited the post 2 seconds after i wrote it, using 3ds max.

anyway, my question is how to animate it without getting the mesh to look flipped or whatever, if i select the arm verteces from the model, and animate them, i can't set the pivot for only the arm, so i had to split the arm in a different object in order to set the pivot. but in that way, moving the arm won't move the rest of the body with it, like the second picture, the second pictures shows the arm after i split it from the main body and rotated it

How to properly animate it? You need to rig the mesh to a skeleton that will deform the verts based on bone weights. This skeleton can be applied to the player and the jacket at the same time, having the jacket deform as the player's arms and torso move around.

However, rigging can be a difficult process to learn. But if you want to animate him properly, and have any hope of making that jacket properly follow the player's arms and torso, you're going to have to learn how.

3DS Max has many tutorials on the subject.
