Has anyone considerd to port DBpro to a Unix based OS like Linux etc
cause if they have any plans on doing so I'd be there frist custumer
why you ask well I was working on one of my projects and I got a BSOD
(Blue screen of death) when I went to restart my Win98SE partition it gave me the same error and will not let me in windows as soon as i hit enter it runs a regestey fixer and reboots and it keeps looping and looping I'm just sick of Windows period no matter what it always seems to crash.
Are there any other programming lauguages like BASIC for unix based system maybe? because I doubt the programmers would bother to port Darkbasic pro to unix because of lack of custumers but thats where your worng see most of the Unix commuity are coders so you would probly be making money, anyways its just a thought

Now I have to wait until transgaming codes a driect x 9 api in to there WINE core so i can attempt to use the win version of DBpro
with WINE.

If your asking how can you port Driect X to Unix the answer is to use there navite libs such as Mesa, DRI, ALSA, OpenGL...etc

I hear ya, windows can be a pain but even though 98 wasn't as horrible as 95, I'd say see if you can get to a seriously stable platform Win2000 pro. I have abused it to death with all forms of development VB6,VB.NET,C++,C#,DBP etc and I have NEVER crashed this damn thing - no lie, never a blue screen once here. That's not to say someone else hasn't but everyone I know who use 2kPro has nothing but good things to say - That + Linux never seeing a version of DBP...

consider a newer os before bailing on win
just MHO

If I can run Qb45 on it I can crash it by calling a random interrupt, LOL I don't see why I would want to but nothing is uncrashible... but I would love to see a good version of BASIC like this mod of basic on a unix based system not because I'm a unix freak but see most Unix based systems requiare so little resources (eg: 486 DX, 16 MB ram) it would allow coders like myself to code at a desent speed if you ever tried to code and run your app while photoshop, premire, softimage are all open at once talk about chops oh hops!!! see now do that with a unix based OS and that ownt happen I can have NASM, The Gimp and Softimage 3d 4.0 all going at teh same time because the os is not hoging all the cpu's power just to display some cheap gradent title bar!

Windows! The game that never ends.

Every OS I have worked on crashes, though Windows seems at the top of the pile. I have seen DOS/OS2/AIX/UNIX/Linux/Win3/Win95/Win98/WinME/Win2000/Win2003 all come crashing down. I had an experience just 3 months ago where my RedHat 7 locked up and I lost 2 months of personal Data at work. It was a duel boot system with Win2000. Couldn't even boot into Win2000 because the Linux side was handling the boot loader for both OSes. Maybe Blitz will creat a Linux verson. (bit my tongue) ;-O

Also the moment you started working with Graphic, that 486 would crawl like a snail in salt. To do anything decent in Linux you need to have at least 75% of the same machine you did it in Windows. Which means Still a PIII and 128mb for good graphics programming.

personally most Stable OSs i use are Windows XP Professional & AmigaOS 4.0

... i've never found another OS which is even half as reliable or stable as XP Professional, don't even get my started on how much i hate XP Home ... god what a waste of time that is.

and britt that is exactly why i tend not to use Linux OS's - they might not crash as much as a Windows based system, but at the end of the day atleast you know if Windows does crash - reboot and everything generally is hunky dory again.
when a Linux system crashes its like a suicide bomber, it wants to take everything with it...
MacOS after a crash generally refuses to bootup until you apologise to it.
BeOS is alright, but quite unstable when using Windows things like DirectX.

Unix systems are pretty stable, pitty they can't really run much software at all ... generally it has to be compiled specifically for that Unix version else - forget about it working.

however on the note of Linux basics - PureBASIC supports linux, but i use that term "support" loosely.
runs perfectly on AmigaOS 3.x though

Oh yah forgot my old Amiga 500 & 1200. I did crash some, but not usually the OS, it happen mostly directly in Games that booted from Disk.
I agree XP has been one of the most stable OS in the Windows line.
