Finally worked up the guts to post something on here for general criticism. Still only a WiP texture, and I suspect the geometry needs a little tweaking before I can animate it properly

He is about 3700 polies for the closeup LoD... which is pretty huge but I wanted enough definition that he is able to be quite expressive with his hand gestures

Comments not only appreciated but NEEDED!

...and just a quick one to show some of the terrain he will be walking around in (placeholder textures, they weren't made by me!)

He appears to have no waist.

well for 3700 polies that is some awesome work. i suck at human character modeling so i cant really criticize on it but it is some great work, keep it up :p

I looks very nice, though as it has been said he has no waist. Try searcxhing for reference pictures of men wearing overcoats to get the right flow across the waist. I havnt any meshs on hand so i cant really show you what i mean.

I like it, it seems very stylised...

Violence isn't the answer, it's the question...

no waist? you mean like the exagerated narrow bit where the belt is?

The original was based more on real human shape (well, kinda). Threw that out when I decided to go for a slightly more cartoony look, hence the long legs, really narrow waist and broad shoulders.

I get what you mean about the lack of normal human proportions though, and have been messing around with the underlying mesh a little. Once I can figure out a way to effectively animate the overcoat as cloth I can show better definition on the legs, hopefully that will make the proportions slightly more human

Maybe widen the waist, and use this as reference...
