So here I am coming up on 5 months since I got wacked on the head at work, and its been a long freakin 5 months. I have been working hard on my movie watching, book reading, writing, coding, playing games, and waiting for doctors and specialists with many years of schooling more then i have to tell me why I get migranes.

Tonight was my MRI appointment (using magnets to take very detailed pics of my brain). I was not looking forward to it, because I have to lay flat on my back for 20 minutes and even 10 seconds makes me really dizzy. But I sucked it up, and laid down on the table, they strap me in, give me a panic button if I get into trouble (yea that made me feel so much better when they said that ).

I was really dizzy after a minute, they were having trouble getting the head brace over my head. Now some of you know, Im a big guy, im 6 foot 7, 300 pounds, 62 inch chest, 25 inch arms at my bicep, my shoulders are as wide as a normal outside door to a house. Size 16 shoes, and all. Im big, friendly giant big. When i moved out of my parents house they saved 600 a month on food alone. My dad was so happy. But working out, and working a physical job you need lots of food. When I was looking at the military as a life time adventure, my uncle who was a 40 year vet of the military said I would be a secret weapon, I would eat the enemys food, so they would have to surrender.

After squeezing my melon in to this brace they have me scrunch my shoulders in and try to brace my self as this table is move into the MRI machine. its basically a giant round plastic toilet paper roll.

Well I was very uncomfortable, and after 2 minutes I felt like pushing the panic button. Then they slide me a little further into this machine, I was tight, and not liking it. I was in pain, having trouble breathing being so tight, and they move me out. I was to big, large to get into this thing past a couple inches.

I hate being this big, and its not like I can remove my arms, or shrink in cold water, im just naturally huge.

So its clothes, cars, foot wear, women, and now medical equipment that is hindered by my size. /sigh

Just had to say it. Get it off my chest. Thanks for reading.

Were they looking at a certain part of your body? The brain?
Have they ran any other tests?
Have they done any sonogram studies?
Have they done a CT or any other x-ray exams?
Hows your heart? What readings do they get with an EKG?
Have they done a Holter Monitor?

Migranes are a mystery.
They can be caused by many things, as I am sure they have told you.
Have they checked your hormone levels?
That can cause them.

Are you taking any beta blockers?

I need more info.
I'm a nurse.

The tried looking at my brain, I have had CTs before since my work accident.

No sonogram. no idea what that is. But im sure they will go that way. They are slow.

2 CTs and 1 Xray - CTs showed a bruise in the soft tissue of the skull

Heart is strong, the EKG came back normal, i have slightly high blood pressure, but have had that all my life, and its not high enough to take meds.

No idea what a Holter Monitor is. But Im going back to a neurologist soon, and they are sending me to a new specilist that handles brain injuries.

Beta Blockers is something they may try, they have talked to me, but atm they have me on....

Maxalt RPD 10mg
APO-AMITRIPTYLINE 50mg
Tylenol 4 ( I dont get rebound headaches )
Tordol
Celexa - for depression, im used to 12-16 hour days, now im not working, its depressing.

I get migranes from a blow to the head, 4 inches above my right eye, 4 and half inches towards the back of my head, lost 2 litres of blood.

They have tried a few other migrane meds with me, but Maxalt works great, the shakes if I take to many suck, and I can only take 4 a week, the doctors say no more then 2, but with how severe the migranes are I can take 4.

I like talking to medical people, just to make sure im getting the right treatment.

I was working around high pressure steam, a wand blew at 3600PSI and flew and hit me in the head.

Well lets talk about my mother... lol jk

Actually I was working for a IT company, and they went belly up (the owners ran with the money and didnt pay anything, left everyone high and dry), and my parents own a pluming and drain cleaning company that uses high pressure steam to clean sewer pipes.

I was testing a new repaired unit, and boom, im bleeding from the head. Wasnt fun.

This has been a crappy year for me. Dec 28th/02 I caught pnemonia (sp?!) had that until the end of Feb. April 7th I get wacked.

25" arms... cripes my waist is only 6" bigger than that - not sure if thats worrying or not.

i have a question though, do you work around computers and televisions alot?
its just myself and my younger bro suffer from bad migrane whenever our monitors are just slightly out of sync - kinda a bane for having bloody good hearing is those real high pitch noises cause all sorts of problems.

well maybe the bang on the head has the same sort of effect on you man ... i mean it probably cause some swelling and such but never really has had time to heal and relax again so whenever your infront of a monitor or someone the sequal from the hz could flare it up again.

might sound really weird, but whenever i get hit in the head being around stuff that uses high frequences certainly makes my head hurt like hell.

usually means having a lay down with everything switched off or taking an neurophene
(usually choose the first cause i hate taking tablets)

Actually the triggers that get me going include

Smells
-purfume
-cigs
-burn
-flowers
Light
-sunlight
Sound
-Bass
-High pitched (like when the monitor is out of sync)
Fast moving
-riding in car (I cant drive since this happened)
-movies/tv (fast and the furious played havoc with my head)

and heights

All came from the hit on the head. Before that, nothing but the odd headache. Most of the triggers will go away I guess. Hopefully sooner then later.

A sonogram is just looking into the body using sound waves.
Such as a pelvic sonogram is used to see the baby of a pregnant woman.
An echocardiogram is used to look at the heart.
If it has to do with your head then they won't do a sonogram.

If your EKG's are comming back normal than they probably will not do a Holter monitor.
A Holter monitor is a 24 hour EKG.
You get outfited with the electrodes and this box that hooks to your belt.
You wear this thing for 24 hours, doing normal daily activities.
You also must keep a diary while on this.
They are used for when they think that the problem is the heart, but the EKG's always come back normal in the office.
They hook this 24 hour EKG on trying to pinpoint the problem.

If you want to know more about your meds, look here...
http://www.healthsquare.com/drugmain.htm

Do you suffer from depression?
Because antidepressants are used for migranes too?
Just curious.
Both APO-AMITRIPTYLINE and Celexa are antidepressants, but I guess you know that.
That Tylenol 4 is 60mg of codeine.

There is also Imitrex.
It is for certain kinds of migranes, may not fit your type.

Any way...
I hope you get better.
Just know that thier is only treatment for migranes, not a cure.
Unless maybe they can fix the damage and they will go away.
Who knows.

But if you have any questions or want me to point you towards some info, let me know.

I use the APO for helping me sleep through the migranes. I do suffer from depression, I hate not working, the migranes have really messed up my home life, etc. So they put me on Celexa, which has helped.

Thanks for the info.

I'd avoid as many 'medical' drugs as you can... they tend to only screw things up further...

Good luck.

Trust me, have a migrane, you will want drugs. lol

I do agree tho, I try not to take drugs, I really only take them when the pain gets to bad, I use dark cold rooms, ice packs.

yeah definately agree there ... some migranes can hurt more than being shot.

i've had both they both pretty much hurt like hell
Purfumes i can get them too, there are a few oders which make my headache a bit ... especially either particularly alchol potent or very musky bland oders.
Sunlight makes me sneeze, i'm sure other people suffer from that - but i can be walking along perfectly fine and suddenly have an attack of the sneezes. used to think i was allergic to pollen, but as the only thing i've been tested for that i've got a minor allergic reaction to is Aleo vera (its not funny they're putting that stuff in everything now, i break out in dry rashs if i don't read the label)

Sound does it for me alot of the time too, its not all the time which is annoying - find that Orchestral/Classic music tends to be nice and soothing for it ... most of my mates hate it cause they think Orchestral is just for like grandads and such but i think there are some stunning soundtracks, got the AoD one recently and have been listening over the new World of Warcraft which i must say had a stunning composer work on the music for it.

Fast moving car, Heights and films with a fast pace say something to me about what has happened though ... you might be getting these cause your brain isn't quite keeping up with all the information that it is getting and causing a kinda "overflow" effect, kinda like when a computers ram is completely used and it has to rely on flipmode ram. If this is the case then really i doubt anything they can do will help you out, hopefully they've run tests which would check for a blood clot or anything of that nature ... if all that was negative then really its just a case of taking it easy as it'll take time to recouperate.
Just try to keep you mind active with puzzles like crosswords or chess ya know all the boring stuff like that. Particularly saying away from less stressful things tend to help alot too.

personally can't stand never to be working myself but when you bod need R&R to fixx itself you'll only cause perminant damage by not letting it.
