I was actually rather disappointed with the news.

Yeah, sure these all sound like great features but before TGC start working on new editor features and lipsync I'd like to see the promised list of outstanding features.

Ragdoll, AI, Water, Improved performance, outdoor scenes, vehicles... (this list goes on).

Now I know that all of these features are available in one form or another in various mods, but that's not the point.

All of these were promised to be included in the vanilla FPSC and completed before last Christmas in a thread Lee himself started... I'm beginning to feel that loyalty to FPSC doesn't really pay dividends.

Let's take entity timers as an example, Lee has agreed that they are valuable and should be included.. They take around 12 lines of code to implement, why couldn't these have been included in V116? Instead, apart from a few bug fixes it seems all of the work went into tuning the engine to work as a non violent version.. Sure again, these are features that will in the end add to the value of the engine, but I for one really want to see the original promised features implemented now.

I doubt I'm alone in my thinking.

I've actually found V116 to be the most stable, the pause at the start of the test game is a little weird, but not too troublesome.

As I said, I just want to see all of the promised features before other work is carried out.

It's in project blue and the code for it is in the Modders Resource Database and I think a couple of other mods

I don't give a flying hoot about migration. All I wish for is DbPro X10 and The FPSC X10 source and all my dreams will have come true.

Direct x10 is dead in the water, it was nothing more than a con trick by Microsoft to make everyone think they were getting something worthwhile until Windows 7 turned up.

I imagine a lot of people do care about the migration but I'm glad to see that you're thinking about yourself.

Yeah, I really like the graphics on those new Direct X 9 games that are coming out. They blow away X10 graphics. I'm not thinking about myself. I want to get my hands on the source so I can add more features into it. I would personally love X10 if it just had a few more features that I like, and if it did I would probably never use X9 again.

In fact I think you are the one taking only upon yourself because you are totally disregarding me and the people who tend to like X10.

Sorry, I must have misread this statement, I now see of course that you were thinking about others.

You are of course welcome to your opinion... Sadly Direct x10 is a loose stepping stone in the path to a much greater time. I've been using computers and programming for over 27 years, I've seen many things come and go and I personally think that TGC made a massive mistake in supporting direct x10... My opinion, and only that....

Quote: "I want to get my hands on the source so I can add more features into it"

I'd be very surprised if this ever happens as firstly the version of DBP required to compile the x10 source is in house and secondly it requires users to only have vista.... I imagine that x10 will be dropped ASAP in favour of x11 by all developers.. In fact, with the exception of FPSC x10 I challange you to find another product that is only x10 compatible.

I don't want to have an argument with you about this but I really feel the whole of the x10 fiasco was a waste of time of every user of TGC products... Again just my opinion..

I don't remember if it is in AirMod 0.6 but it's in the incomplete beta of AirMod SE and it was in Empty's Mod (one of the first released FPSC mods). I'm sure Project Blue has something like it, it seems like a trivial addition - it did only take about 12 lines of code, if that

Its also in Fenix Mod. I gave Lee the code in the V1.16 beta thread and he completely ignored it

Yeah I have some thing to start world flame war 3.

No only kidding.

I have made suggestions before that could have been implemented fairly
easy.

One was a better entity placement system compared to the current 45 degree angle system.

The one of the others have been to have additional flags in the code to allow for disabling collision detection to allow static entities as well as segments passable a sort of clip and noclip mode.

This will allow closing of unaccessible areas but allow light mapping to pass as well as flags blocking light mapping this can then be expanded further to make meshes that light sources can be placed in to get that spot point and directional Light mapping at any angle you want.

However the comment as always has been after the migration version which I can understand. If the actual implementation of some of the users suggestions will take place after the migration version....well.........

Is up for discussion....

Just a note there are some known features that will becoming after the migration version sooner or later it does concern water for example.Lee is planning or has planned to allow water to be painted like segments which will allow for separate sections of water planes and in some ways improve performance not just for X10.

I have not said this before, these discussions are useless you should have learned this by now this has been going on since early days.

Asking for this feature or that feature only to be told later.I guess some people are still waiting for features requested nearly 2 years back..

So I'm not keeping my hopes for any thing from TGC...I have learned the hard way.
So I rather focus on creating games and models and improving skills so if that elusive FPSC magically falls from the sky I will not be were I started moaning about a save bug or way Pixel shader 26
has not been implemented.

You can change the X, Y, and Z rotation by 1 degree turns by holding down shift+1/2/3/4/5/6.

or hold down shift and it will go slower when you rotate it.

I think the current system is pretty good, you can press enter to bring an object to the top of another, and you can also use page up + down for manual control. I think there's another keyboard shortcut which moves the object down/up one entity layer too.

I've no real major issues with the editor, sure improvements would be nice but as I say, I really want to see the promised migration features integrated first. I this is a matter of Lee simply being too busy (and we all know he is) maybe it's time for TGC to approach a couple of the modders for a little of their existing code? Just a thought.
