So, I've been seeing all of these WIPs posted and threads with member's models in them and I'm getting pretty jealous. So, I believe it's time I made my own.

Here's a simple mallet I'm working on. I've got the model finished (a few unnecessary polys, I know ) and I'm working on the UV map. The UV map is basically done except for a few adjustments to make sure the texture blends together correctly.

Quick render with wireframe and temporary texture:

Scaled down UV Map (was 600x600):

I think the mallet measures at around 400 polys. The mallet is mostly for texturing and UV mapping practice, so correct me if I'm doing something wrong here.

So, C&C is always welcome and thanks for taking the time to look at this thread. Cheers!

Bah, no responses yet, but I finished the mallet. I thought I did a pretty good job on it myself, but I'd like to know what you guys think.

that UV has got some free spaces that u could have used to make the texture a bit high res, other than that: its a simple, yet effective look. i like it!

Thanks for the feedback guys. I really appreciate it.

And about using the extra space on the UV. Yah, I could've made the space more useful, but what's an extra 40 pixels, right?

A simple yet effective weapon, too. One wack on the head with this and they're out cold. Simplicity at it's finest.

The overall texture works, yet there is not a lot of detail in needed places.

Is the missing detail on the mesh or the texture? If you're talking about the texture, then the grip is probably the area you're referring to. I'd have to agree on that, though, if this were to be used in a game, you'd never see the grip. But, If you're talking about the mesh, then there's nothing I could really add without making it look (with lack of a better word) cluttered.

And if I'm missing the point completely, care to point out which parts need more detail?

That Uv could have been improved by overlapping some UV's Look into that

It's a good mesh and a good texture. You have no reason to be jealous, you've put the effort into making a coherent model with little stretching etc..

My crit would be the proportions. The handle is almost the same girth as the mallet itself, and the length of the coshing bit is again almost the same as the handle. This could obviously be a design choice, but it might make the weapon look a little bit stumpy on a model. maybe you could add a little length to the weapon?

Also, I agree with other people about the amount of real estate you have left on that UV map. Maybe add some details to the weapon? Like a ring through the base of the handle so it could be hung on a belt,? Part of me thinks that it would be cool if there were some dents in the cosh too... like it had already cracked some orks...

I want robotic legs.
