Hi I've been reading in this newcomers section since I first started to learn Darkbasic Pro which has been a few days less than a week. I have taken a Visual Basic programming class before so I was not completely new to programming but would not even call myself intermediate, I knew the basics like the IF, THEN, ELSE statements, strings, variables ect... So I was able to skip those tutorials. Then moved on to some of the basic tutorials from youtube and this board. First thing I learned was some of the basic 3d commands that darkbasic uses like load object, position object, camera commands ect... Once I felt like I got the basics of those I learned how to create a simple room in cartography shop and load that with darkbasic pro. I then learned how to create a simple character(just a plain white sphere) and learned to view and move it around in 3rd person. The next part was the hardest, Collision, it took me several days to get it because I was trying to learn the more complex types of collision using the dll's. I guess those were too advanced for me at this time but I finally found the basic collision using Set Object Collision and Object Hit commands. This worked but I quickly realised that you could glitch through the walls if you held up and tapped left or right at the same time. And on my own I came up with the solution to counter that problem. I was excited that I was able to overcome this problem on my own which is why I came to post this story. I am having doubts as to how far I can actually go using this generic type of collision detection. The first problem I see with it is getting my character to be able to go up some stairs, or jump. If any of you advanced people know if the collision ive described will affect either of those let me know. I do plan on learning the sliding collision at some point but as for now I just want to see how far I can take this current project because I am learning as I go.

I wrote this because I wanted to give people who are completely new a little hope because I know how impossible it can seem to learn this stuff. And I still feel like some of the more advanced stuff is impossible for me to learn but I've come this far and I'm sure if I keep at it and learning from tutorials and others example code I can figure things out.

Thanks for reading.
