Developers: BlackFox & BlueFox

Introduction

With the various mods being developed for FPSC, we decided to look at a way to simplify the swapping of mods into FPSC without having to manually copy the file each time you wanted to run a mod. Since both my wife and I design our own games, we found we had to manually swap the mods each time we wanted to try a different mod. We sat down and drafted out on notebook how to best perform this feature. Hence, Mod-IT was created.

What is Mod-IT?

Mod-IT is a simple application to help FPSC users swap mods in FPSC with ease. The application allows the user to specify the path to their FPS Creator. The user can then choose which mod to swap by entering the mod name and be able to swap with the click of a button. Mod-IT supports up to four mods to be placed for use. Mod-IT works in x9 only.

** NOTE TO USERS- BE SURE TO BACKUP YOUR ORIGINAL FILE FPSC-GAME.EXE BEFORE YOU USE MOD-IT **

How do I use Mod-IT?

The first step is for the user to install the mods they wish to use into their FPSC. The mods contain instructions on how to install into their FPS Creator and specific files that need to be installed in their proper folders (refer to the mod's documentation). Once completed, the user can then install Mod-IT. Once Mod-IT is installed, the user will then have to do a bit a manual configuration to prep Mod-IT.

Details:

The download contains a PDF manual. We encourage users to read this manual to understand how this application works. The manual will give steps on how to set Mod-IT up to utilize. This application is not for users that have no understanding to mods or how to install mods in FPSC.

Mod-IT currently works for x9 only.

The following downloads are available:

Mod-IT is posted on the FPS-Media site, under FPS Apps & Utils section.

Cool! Good to see you making some of your own stuff, BlackFox.

Good luck to both of you,

@ PW Productions

We've been making software for quite some time. Most of it has been written for either our network here or my work. Took some time to come up with an idea to make something that uses FPSC.

We'll have more coming down the pipe. Have a notebook full of ideas. I just need to get my notebook-to-program_code converter going At the moment I'm spending time eating all the Christmas baking that Cathy has been doing since the beginning of the weekend.

Mod-IT Update: 13-Dec-09

We made a small update to Mod-IT. Originally it would install only in a specific directory on the C drive. It now will allow the user to specify a directory to install if they do not wish to use the default.

We apologize if some have already downloaded the application. Thanks to hockeykid in another post for reminding me of this. The links and manual in the first post have been updated.

Cheers

this looks really useful! I'm actually using PB, Fenix, and Horror Mod all for testing and different effects until I can figure out how to do everything I need to do in one version. I rename the current FPSC-Game im using each time.. A one click app will be great!

I downloaded this and set it up and it all works nicely except for when I use the "clean files" button. The cleaner program opens but gives a message saying it can only be run from the FPS Creator folder.

After a bit more testing I do seem to be having one more issue which I can't quite understand.

No matter what mod I switch in (Or even if I switch in vanilla FPSC) if I use the "launch FPSC" button from inside Mod-IT when I go to change my preferences I get this:

However, if I use Mod-IT to just switch mods and then use the regular desktop shortcut I have to launch FPSC I get this preference box:

I don't know why that would be happening. It's not a big problem and is probably some error entirely of my own doing, but I just thought I would let you know.

The first panel Thraxas one looks like the preferences for X10, while the second for X9.

This is a great idea, i only have one question;
Is it possible to combine the different mods in a build game, so you have PBM dual wield and Fenix mod third person in one game??

This is a great little app and works well, I can confirm that if you using v1.16 when you launch fpsc from MOD-IT you get the x10 preference box for some reason.

Also the link to download the app seems to not work.

Well done on your release Blackfox

@ Thraxas

Thank you for pointing that out. I did run FPSC via the button and did not even give it a thought to the settings. When we run FPSC via the shortcut in Vista, it does come up with the security box to "allow or deny". Launching FPSC via Mod-IT does not ask, and I missed that. I've decided to remove the option to launch FPSC or Clean files from Mod-IT for the moment (as you will see in the first post screen shot). Instead, we have decided to show what mods are currently set. I'll have to examine further why the message comes up when trying to Clean Files, or why settings are not the same via Mod-IT vs the FPSC shortcut.

Cathy says for your trouble, she has some Christmas baking for you

@ SanXL

Unfortunately, no. This application is only to "swap" the file fpsc-game.exe for the different mods only. Since I use one mod and Cathy uses a different one, I designed this for her usage so that she did not have to manually copy the mod each time she wanted to work on her game. I would assume the request you made has to do with the actual coding of the mod, and we don't deal with that.

@ All

I am currently working on the update v1.01 and will post as soon as I am done. I've made a few changes to the main interface (as mentioned earlier to Thraxas) and once the test is complete, I will have it ready and post. I've temporarily removed the download, but it will be back within the hour of this post.

Cheers

Update: 14-Dec-09

Mod-IT Update

I apologize for the delay. I have my one year old in the office today and is keeping me "busy"

Mod-It has been updated. The following outline the changes/fixes:

* Removed the buttons Clean Files and Launch FPSC

* Changed the Main Menu to show what mods have been configured. This will now show the user what mods are currently been selected each time they run Mod-IT. Refreshes if you decide to change the mods or shuffle into different slots.

The interface screen, manual, and download link in the first post have been updated. I want to give a big thank you to Thraxas for pointing out the bugs and giving us the chance to correct them.

Cheers

Now this is extremely odd,as we know the editor interface for x9 and x10 have been merged into the same source but for some reason its launching the x10 interface for you .

Thanks for the update.

I find it really weird and probably wouldn't have discovered this either except that I needed to turn full shaders off and the option was gone.

Even without the option to launch FPSC from within the program after setting it all up it's still so much easier to click the buttons rather than rename multiple files

I think I may have found a bug in Mod-IT. It seems that when you try and load a mod from the 'mod4' folder it actually loads in the FPSC-Game.exe from the 'mod1' folder.

I have Horror Mod in my mod1 folder and RPG Mod in my mod4 but if I click the mod4 button, Horror Mod gets loaded in. All the mods in other folders are loaded correctly.

Thraxas, you are correct. In the mod4 code, it was pointing to the mod1 folder. I have corrected that and rebuilt the application. Newest version has been made available in the first post, or on FPS-Media. Thank you for letting me know.

Mod-IT Update: 30-Mar-2010

We have made an addition to Mod-IT. The user can now view which mod has been swapped into FPSC by clicking on Mod > Current Mod Active (new screen in first post).

Installation Notes:

If you have been using v1.02, you will need to do the following:

1. Copy the folder Mods to a temp directory
2. Copy the folder Data to a temp directory
3. Install Mod-IT v1.03
4. Copy the two folders from the temp directory back to Mod-It.

This will prevent users from having to manually copying their mod files into the mod slots and reconfiguring Mod-IT.

If users have not used v1.02, then just run the installer.

Mod-IT v1.03 is available to download off the first post.

Mod-IT v2.00 will be made available on our site FPS-Media. We have requested this thread be locked.

Cheers

Mike
