For sandboxing purposes, i've installed my FPSC on an XP in VirtualBox.

FPSC install works beautifully. DirectX install works beautifully.

But when starting FPSC i get this error-MsgBox:
"Runtime Error 1512 - Display is not supported by available hardware at line 0".

Clicking the OK-button causes FPSC to throw this error-MsgBox at me:
"The application has encountered a problem and needs to close... blablabla".

Then, clicking OK causes the FPSC to crash.

I've tried running dxdiag, which reports all-OK.
Updated to v116 - no change.
The emulated graphics adapter has had hardware acceleration enabled, and i've set GPU RAM to 64 MB.

Anyone who can provide me with ideas on how to persuade FPSC to do the right thing?

Nope Fpsc checks what hardware has been installed via a driver or system config file or whatever file.

That is you problem it is likely it needs the real thing or you used the wrong emulated graphics adapter.

But my bet is on the emulated graphics adapter been picky with FPSC.

thats why you should use a propper graphics card istned of a emulated one

I don't use Virtualbox, but I do use VMWare. I have received the same error you have. It's the emulated graphics driver for both VMWare and Virtualbox that is the issue. Unfortunately, you will have to run it in a "host" environment.

Cheers

'Emulated graphics driver'... Sure enough, it's the graphics driver. But it escapes me why we need 'the real deal' to get FPSC (and ready-made DBPro games) going. I mean - if the binaries are just ordinary executables requiring DirectX API present, they should work with any DirectX-conformant GPU-hardware - including emulated. As long as the combined GPU/driver interface provides what's necessary to satisfy DirectX, i'd happily assume that anything put 'on top' of DirectX would work. Directly accessing hardware is yesterday's technique, and almost guarantees nonportability.
Yes, i know that games in general tend to push the envelope, getting closer to the bare metal in order to wring out every last bit of performance from available hardware. AFAIK DirectX was created to do just that - provide a 'close-to-bare-metal'-interface with high performance for games while retaining a standardized interface.
And my emulated GPU is DirectX conformant.

I'm still puzzled. Both error-MsgBoxes are generated by FPSC. Not the DirectX-subsystem...
