Hi,

I hope I’m posting this in the right section of the forum.
Using a tutorial I found in Nickydude’s manual, I exported a .X model from Sketchup. Nothing fancy, just a tunnel-like structure. The outside texture is brick and for the inside I used some random metal material.

As per the tutorial, I imported it as an entity. It works, and I can apply it to the terrain, but there are two issues:

1) If I set the entity as “dynamic” the model is rendered with the appropriate textures (i.e., brick on the exterior, metal in the interior). However, I’m not able to enter the tunnel.

2) If I set the entity as “static”, I can enter the tunnel with no problem. However, the inside texture that is supposed to be metallic, is replaced by the exterior brick texture.

I would appreciate any pointers as to how I can rectify the problem. That is, I want the textures to remain intact and I also want to be able to enter the tunnel, etc.

Thanks in advance. BTW, just got FPSC a little over a week ago, so I’m somewhat of a newb.

Use Wings 3d.
I would not reccomend sketchup at ALL for FPSC, for DBpro it seems fine but NEVER use sketchup for FPSC. Ever.

Dynamic entitys only use box collision this is why you cannot enter the tunnel, unfortunately only dynamic entity's handle multiple textures.
You have two choices:
You can keep your object dynamic and use a no collision script, but you will have to place either invisible walls/floors to provide collision or an invisible lower poly static copy of the entity.

Or you can uvw map the object make it static and use a single texture made up of the two images you want to use (the best way).

@rolfy: Thanks for explaining the issues and the options that are available to me. You certainly cleared up a lot of things for me!

@General Jackson: I'll be giving wings 3d a try. THanks.
