I see tiny holes with light bleeding thru certain textures I'm testing. These textures are usually freebies and bump mapped jpegs.
How do you correct this issue and is there an article anywhere that addresses this.

all black colors are invisible or transparent.

As Nexar said, a black color with the RGB (0,0,0) will appears as transperant. You can correct this by open your image in any Image Manipulation Software and add a (1,1,1) layer behind it and save it.

... or if your textures are in *.jpg format, convert them into *.dds or *.png.

Black colors are only transparent in *.jpg format.
