Does anybody else think that the loading time for test game takes too long ? Mainly at calculating object lighting. Never seen any other game creation software compile light maps so slow, fpsc took 2 hrs to compile just a simple map yesterday No offense there

Just wanted to ask

What processor do you have? Phenom is usually faster then Radeon on the loading screen.

Yes, but then I also think that the grid is too small, the FPS is capped too low, it can't handle enough characters, etc....

Do you have the lightmaptexsize and lightmapquality cranked up in the setup.ini like I do? Do you have the preferences cranked up too? You can lower all those settings until you get ready to build and your test maps will load much faster. Yes, it won't be pretty while testing and you'll have to trust that everything will be sharp and clear when finished, but it'll save a lot of time.

Brian.

Testing a level in Project Blue is ultra quick - it is usually done within 20-30 seconds. Slightly longer if full lightmapping is enabled.

2 hours. It doesen't take many minutes for me. But it doesen't feel so long, becouse I usually play guitar or bass at the same time when it's loading. Or just listen some music.

2 hours? Most of mine take less than a minute.

Do you have your lightmap setting cranked up to the max? Keep them low or at the default settings until you're ready to do your final builds.

EDIT: I just noticed xplosys recommended the exact same thing, I was late to the party

You must have settings too high...

Although FPSC is quite slow for what it does. Unreal can build a test level together in about...3 minutes on the highest settings...

well, I turned everything down in the setup.ini and its alot quicker, didnt change the prefs though just kept them on the highest but yeah, UDK does compile alot quicker, the reason its taking 3 mins is cause youve got lightmass on in the beta 2 , get beta 3 and that lightmass takeing forever thing is fixed

When I test my game, it takes a long time to load as well. I have shader effects on, medium quality, and low light mapping.

PC Specs: 1 Ghz Intel Pentium M, 1 TB hard drive, 128 MB Intel GMA 915, Windows XP PRO 32 bit, and 1GB of RAM.

fenix does fast lightmaps, its the obstacles and building portals that gets me.

Me too. But it doesen't still take too long. Red Eyed Rats didn't take too long to test. Neather any other level I tested. Under a minute mostly. But sometimes maby even 2 minutes.

FPSC X10 does a better job on this as lightmapping takes advantage of all cores if you have multi core processor support.

I once put a feature request to Lee that you should be able to select an area of the level (like with the cut / paste tools) so when testing, only that part of the map is built. This would allow level designers to see each room in a map as they create it with full / high lightmapping quality and manageable compile times.

He said it was a good feature request but perhaps if enough people ask it might have a better chance of being implemented.

I know, thats why I use it more often then x9, well, not atm cause I have some problems with shadowing :/ they seem to just pop up everywhere over everything as a grid, I think its a pack ive installed and its messed up x10

I'm running on a 3.2 GHz machine, 2gb of RAM, and Nvidia GeForce 6200, and even my semi-old PC doesn't calculate them that slow. Something must be set up wrong in your game.

Temporarly away from the Phoenix Sentry.
