Why are people so happy during Christmas? There's people dying in Iraq and all we care about are the presents (except for the religious ones).

I know why, its because they want to leave the 'Christ' part out.
Merry Christmas!

It is those very soldiers, fighting for us, that allow us the freedoms to celebrate in the manner we choose. Let's not forget their sacrifice, and continue to celebrate while we can.

Not to turn this into a religious debate but it doesn't take 'Christ' out of Christmas at all...X was used to abbreviate Christ in Greek...Sorry but thats(people complaining about taking 'Christ' out of Christmas) been one of my pet peeves ever since I found that out.

EDIT: Couldn't agree more xplosys.. my deepfelt thanks goes out to all soldiers on the forums and out there in the world.

Merry Christmas all!

Last I'll say: and how many people know this? not many. I didnt even know it.
Nope, It IS to take Christ out of Christmas, whether everyone who says xmas knows it or not.
Now lets not say anymore about it, this is a happy thread

In that case then they have failed miserably at it.
And I must disagree http://www.examiner.com/x-29766-Columbia-Language--Grammar-Examiner~y2009m12d8-Writing-Xmas-instead-of-Christmas-does-not-take-Christ-out-of-Christmas

But you're right about stopping. Sorry everbody. Once again Merry Christmas!

@ Xplosys

Amen to that.

Merry Christmas to all fellow soldiers out there. Also want to say Merry Christmas to our secondary Search and Rescue unit that just left on deployment. They are taking a deployment so that my unit and I can spend a Christmas at home this year with our families.

Cheers

Mike

Peanut, that's good info.

Quote: "The reason that Xmas has fallen into ill repute in recent years is due to the decline in classical education, and education in general, that in former days gave even high school graduates enough of a smattering of Greek and Latin to know that the X represented the Greek Christos."

How very true.

EDIT: A very Merry Christmas to Black and Blue Fox. Thanks again to everyone who serves.

Brian.

Doublethink at its finest

There's no denying that the X abbr. is identified as the PC/commercial version, in contemporary times.

For me, Christmas is the time of year for goodwill towards men or other random spiritual things and X-Mas is the time of year people get shot in face over Tickle-Me-Elmo.

Sorry for bringing it up
