Hi guys I`m new to 3d modeling and just made a gun my 1st question is how do you count the number of polys in a model? I know there is no way yo do it by hand so im guessing there is a program that will do it. Thanks for the help guys I appreciate it.

Oh I almost forgot I use truespace 7.61.

My next question how hard is it to rig a model gun with arms/hands?

the attachment is a picture of my model.

When in doubt use the search bar.

A. Polys are Faces (any modeler should tell you)
B. i just rigged/finished a gun rig with arms today in about 4 hours. so on a scale of 1-10 its an 8

check my thread about the FP45 (pistol)

the boning is the hardest part.
(actually texturing is)
but youll get the hang of it soon enough
and btw the gun looks pretty good for being a newer modeler.
(You can click my profile and look at my threads)>> and youll see the first gun i made the thread is called ump45 with scope. (it sux)
it was all primitives.

Most my other threads are guns that arent quite that bad.

check it out.

i never got the hang of truespace though it is pretty nice free package.
btw i use anim8or

Good luck

Looks great, also looks like a water gun. Maybe it could be an acid gun, that would be cool.

Ok, first things, to answer your first question.
Quote: "just made a gun my 1st question is how do you count the number of polys in a model?"

To get the poly count in truespace, go to the Model side and right click on the mouse pointer icon it should give you poly (quad) count. For a triangle count, copy (click the icon with two cubes and a arrow to copy) and press the trianglify icon within the mirror section of the model side. and read the new values. Delete this object, if you are not done with modelling. Keep the original in tack.

second of all that is a very good gun, Good job, have you uv mapped it yet.

lastly Truespace have two sides to it, a model side (which I mostly use) Because it is the side where you can deal with small objects and large with accurate placement and polygon control, while the workspace side (the side you seem to be using) is made for large scale modelling, which is meant to be organic in nature, this side is more artistic and since this side can take up to 1 million polys, the poly counter is not present. If you are making models for a game its best to use a balance of both sides' modelling capability. I.E the model side allows you to draw directly to 3D polygons or make your own, however the workspace side allows the user to do Boolean operation as many times as you wish.

However one thing I can't seem to master in truespace is animation,
But the furthest I've reached with that was on the workspace side.

I really hope this helps you as well as other.
Cyril.
