Well, albeit this is largely 2D work, it's made to go on 3D models, so the 3D section seems more amply suited.

Anyway, trying to perfect my hand painting... It's progressing slowly... lol, here, here's all of my attempts so far, oldest to newest...

Wow, very nice I could see those going into a cartoon game. If you want to add more, I dunno, realism? Detail? Put 'em in a photo editing program and play around. They are good starts; much better than my first attempts. My 1st was... wood as well, I think. It looked like metal

Cheers

That sort of defeats the purpose of hand painting doesnt it?

@PwP: Thanks! Whenever somebody asks what style I'm going for I just say Stylised Realism xD

@Azunaki: I have never even heard of those forums before you mentioned it, but I just did a quick browse and I'm guessing you are mentioning the post by Dev? There has been kind of a boom of hand painted textures over at Polycount, he was among one of the people to post, his thread inspired and helped me to create my textures.

@Quik:Haha, thanks!

@Asteric: Yes, it would seem to. But, on the other hand, painting over a wood photo might help you/me/whoever notice color variations, and the shape of the grain and wood. But that would only really be for if you were trying to go for a really realistic style wood plank.

Thanks for the comments guys! I'll see what I can come up with today. I still don't like my latest attempts, so I'm going to keep trying...

torchlight is an action rpg. all the tools were posted up so there has been a flock of hand painters over there(one thread did the same style of boards although after i looked at it again the one they did was darker and had nails in it.

quik if you love that style you should take a look at tourchlight its a $20 download from their site(maybe less some were else) and has tons of mods being made for it.

I'm not going crazy, I did see this on Polycount.*phew* I do half like your last piece, the one where the wood looks bold, gives off a nice bold cartoon-ish quality, kinda on the lines of like Diablo 3, where it is based in a fairly realistic environment but the textures give off this kinda like storybook look.
