First of all; I'd like to thank the developers who made this all possible, without you...there wouldn't be any BOTB! And without any further "messing around"; here is the Winner of the VBOTB: 2009

Red Shift - Defy

UPDATE (3/2010):

Congratulations to Defy, he is the next in line to receive the VBOTB. Unfortunately; it came to my attention that TheK has given a copy, of his purchased copy, of Project Blue to another member...who in turn passed it around. Our policy on Piracy is strict....DON'T DO IT! To read more on this unfortunate incident, click here.

The following is a breakdown of the results; Judge's Results, followed by the Community Vote.
___________________________________________________________________

Judgment

The Warehouse - Puppy of Kosh = 131 pts.

Automatic Update - Wehtam = 150 pts.

Pioneering - Chidem = 189 pts.

Canalyst - Sector 49 Studios = 188 pts.

Red Shift - Blazer X = 189 pts.
___________________________________________________________________

As you can see; Pioneering, Canalyst and Red Shift were extremely tight. Automatic Update suffered from the very reason for it's being: making a game with stock media. Making a good game with only stock media is no small feat, and not many can do it. Wehtam does it, and does it well! If not for the custom categories, he may have pulled off a win. Maybe next year!

The Warehouse
was an excellent shooter, but lacked some of the originality present in the 3 titles mentioned above. But overall, it was a good solid shooter...and took the top place in the Community Vote!

I'd also like to note that although Pioneering did not do very well in the community vote; it was geared at a little bit different audience/player (with it's historical leanings). It also held the highest score in the Originality category!
___________________________________________________________________

Here is a graphic of the Poll (Community Vote) results:

___________________________________________________________________

Final Tally

The Warehouse - Puppy of Kosh = 166.5 pts.

Automatic Update - Wehtam = 170.3 pts.

Pioneering - Chidem = 191.3 pts.

Canalyst - Sector 49 Studios = 211.8 pts.

Red Shift - Blazer X = 207 pts.
___________________________________________________________________

With about a 5 point lead, Canalyst beats out Red Shift for the Title of Very Best of the Best: 2009! The community vote made all the difference in this case!

Thanks again for all who voted, and all those who showed support; and a big thanks to TGC for supplying the generous prize of a $250 Voucher and 4,000 Store points!

With all the Mods available, and the new shader system from Bond1; I expect 2010 to be a very exciting year for the Best of the Best...as well as the Very Best of the Best: 2010!

guys, i don't normally venture into FPSC forums but when the VBOTB voting thread appeared i decided to download and play the entries (and a few other wip's from the forums, as well). all were quite fun, impressive, and unique (so much so that playing the demos prompted my purchase of the fpsc bonanza pack ). the hard work put into the demos was obvious and congratz to all for what you've accomplished. well done!

Thanks for playing them, VN! All the devs worked hard on their games/demos, and it's good to see them get the recognition they deserve, as well as all the other BOTB entries.

Look forward to seeing what you can come up with yourself.

I couldn't open Canalyst on either my old laptop or my new laptop. When I attempt to open it I get the following error:

Runtime error 1507 - Display using 32bit is not supported by available hardware at line 2552.

I have a suspicion that it's Windows 7 causing the problem as it occurs on both laptops. Both laptops have completely different hardware so I don't think it's graphics card related.

Hey, thanks guys!

marc steene, that error was my fault. Open up the "setup.ini" and set in the lines "width=" and "height=" something, what your monitor supports. That should fix your problem.
I've forgotten to delete these lines.

Best,

@TheK - thanks, I got it working It's really good so far - the checkpoint arrows were a really good idea and the tutorial gives the player a nice introduction to the game instead of just dropping the player in like most FPSC games. Good work, I'm looking forward to the full game

Wait! I know what happened, but this is just not right!

Quality goes beyond the tools. No matter how he did it. It isnt the way to act.

It is completly wrong, I know.

Although, that is just my opinion.

Congrats to new VBOTB!

i hate to be a perty pooper but i think that red shift desrves not even a BOTB, i would rate the game 2/10 starts.

Why? because for starters the name just sounds like a rip off on the game Blue shift. When you get shot some funny chinese symbol pops up, through the entire game i didnt have any HUDS so i couldnt tell how much ammo i had and how much health i got. There is only 2 guns. The level design needed more dressing up (more objects, often there was just say a blank room with a car sitting in the middle of it). I couldnt understand a thing in game from the stock standard voice acting. Each level took me under a minute. Only like 10 mins of gameplay. No variaty in enemys it was just vanilla all the way. Puzzles where way obvious. In the menu when you click new game (in english) it goes load game. i spent more time figuring out how to play the game then what i did playing it.

and some good things about it was that it finished just before i wanted to delete it. Really i dont see what is so good about this game. Again sorry for being a party pooper but im a tough judge to impress and this is not one of them.

Ok, you need to cliack chinese symbolf ofcourse. And Defy said, that it was one level cut into pieces, and tell me an FPSC game that has more than 10 minutes of gameplay. Canalyst had less than that. And I liked the level design, it was nice, what kinda stuff would be in that room? Tell me that. I think Defy deserves ´the title. And I don't remember you getting a BOTB, do I?

I must admit..for me I couldn't understand any of the voices and I spent more time loading than playing.

And something Defy might want to look into is that there are lots of little spots on the wall textures that are transparent and you can see the skybox.

I am sorry to hear about the events leading up to the new announcement,
however would like to thank all the people involved (testers etc) and those who voted.

I also appreciate the feedback, and will do my best to look into these matters.

thanks again.

Anderson.

As far as I know the best time was around 4 hours

However:

After some time off the records, I´m back to the boards and have learned about the VBOTB - and, to be honest, Red Shift deserves it.
