EDIT: Totally redone the T98, scroll down to my 3rd post or so to see... This post is outdated, that model below no longer exists on my harddrive

Hey guys, started working on a new model based on one in my dreams It turned out quite unlike the one in my head, but was still good. Yet for some reason I was disappointed with the overall look (especially the front part and handle area)... Could anyone give me some advice before I start texturing and rigging?

NEW SCREENS IN THIRD POST DOWN

And remember, I really, really need criticism. I won't be able to continue texturing until I get some.

Thanks,

-PwP

only 2 things right now that i can think of (just woke up)

A.) The handle is too blocky, chamfer it a bit.
B.) I know the player wont see it but if it is used in multiplayer you should hollow out the barrel (inset a little then extrude the wrong way

you should do B no matter what.

C.) rifles usually have stocks. (butt of the gun)

Contrary to popular belief, "scifi" <> "countless random extrusions / insets". .

Basically I think you've gone overboard with the notches and insets. If anything, scifi means futuristic, which means advanced weapons that have become simplified, focusing on balance, armour for the player's hands while holding the gun, etc.

How true, I never thought of it. Maybe I'll redo this one. I was planning on redoing the clip and handle for sure.

Alright, TOTALLY redone, not even similar to the first one anymore. I like this one a lot better and already know how I'm going to texture it. But I'm still having issues sorting out the wireframe; it looks very messy, yet still works fine.

SCREENS OF THE NEW T98 COBRA:

The over simplistic clip:

And the wire, see the back part? That's where I was having issues...

Comments welcome

Meh, so? You won't be seeing it much in-game... But yes, it's sharp, like a block. Might as well fix it for practice

Looks ok, however you have many useless random extrusions, like on the receiver, you have lots of random blocks on the side. Also you didnt uv map some of the handle

Your signature has been erased by a mod - Please reduce it to 600x120 maximum size

Thanks for the criticism guys, working on a pistol / rifle (it has a clip but is one handed, like the WH40k Bolter). Will edit this post later with screens

If i may, Make about 2 different versions, and I suggest adding a little color like a sci-fi red or blue to signal a different version of the weapon, like one with a bigger bullet/explosives and one with a scope and other features like a handle? we're limited on scifi weapons and most of us are making scifi games...

this is a problem...

Maybe a heavy weapon like a plasma bolt launcher would be good.

It would look somewhat like this:

Stay with this model and make it better, for instance, the handle still is a box

And for the bump, I've abondoned this^^ I'm remaking it. And the texture was crap lol...

Uh, omg, I have read this discussion in another thread. But it is very simple, the magazine is the container where you put a clip of bullets in. A pistol has a magazine which contains a clip and a rifle has a magazine which contains a clip.

There was a nice video on youtube of a guy demonstrating everything and explaining all the different versions. I don't have it though.

@ isocadia Unless people are gun freaks, they wont know that, and plus,, for the ak47, they dont call it a banana magazine, they call it a banana clip.

Most people wont really care what they say unless they are gun freaks.

I never say clip, always magazine, i always referred clips to being a collection of rounds, and a magazine being what a clip goes into.

Yes, I already know

Can mods lock this? I'm going to start a new 'PwP's 3D Media thread' sometime next week. Thanks!

oh yeah and before the lock, i would like to say, that clips feed from the top (like the m1 garand or lee enfield) and magazines feed from the bottom (pretty much every modern gun)

thats the easiest way to remember. (although its not impossible to be the other way around, for instance the japanese LMG that has a magazine from the top)
