well im still working on my character, but he will have a mauser 98.

Ok i got the iron sights and the metal strap and the barrel done

ok i uploaded into wings 3d and the smoothing looks 30 times better.
how do i achieve this effect for everything? (not just wings)

My only concern about your UV map is some of the larger aspects of the gun look like they could be scaled larger in the UV map area.

well im not done yet.
Here is my progress on it, im almost done.
ive been busy taking care of cleaning the house though so it's taking me a while.

Hey mate, that is VERY good.
For mapping I would suggest wings uv-mapper over lithunwrap.
It is much more powerful, if you know how to use it.

Lol i actually googled one today but found it worthless.
I am slow and need step by step tutorial if you make one but one would be helpful ( preferably a gun tutorial )

i mapped each piece individually, and please explain more why box mapping is bad? anyways it's going to be third person with the camera 10 feet above and 5 feet behind the character. So a little stretching isnt a big deal.

any way here is my UV.
(the little white spots on the right that you cant really see are the parts you wont be able to see. ( i just put them on the uv in case i need them later.)

Rectangular maps are a no-no.

1. They do not work unless they measure to a power of 2, such as 1024x512

2. If you do not manually fix it, the stretch your UV's

Your signature has been erased by a mod - Please reduce it to 600x120 maximum size
