I recently found out DBP was released free so I figured I'd dust out the old book and see what I could come up with. Basically I'm making a game based off of Crazy Bones, a really cool collectible toy. I used to have them when I was maybe ten or so and they were my favorite. Now they made new ones.

The game is essentially a remake of a flash game they have on their website, gogoscrazybones.com, called sticker jump. The object of the game is to jump higher and higher by bouncing on bubbles that contain stickers. There are enemies you have to avoid and powerups, health, ect.

Now I'll post a noobish wip progress thing.

Thanks guys!

Got my particles working for when a bubble is jumped on. Adding screenshot to first post now.

I was hoping I could have used the set cartoon shading on to get at least a similar effect as I had in maya. But when I used it, it came out with ugly texture errors. Is there something I am completely missing about the command that's causing it to not work?

Yeh, cartoon shading is difficult to understand in DBP if you're not familiar with the command.

A long time ago I found the means to get it working, but even then it can screw up sometimes.

For good results I use the following 2 images for the shading and edge pictures:

Shading

Edge

Or if it messes up, for some reason I've found replacing the shading image with a 1x1 pixel of white, sorts it out.

Ohhh, so I was going about it completely wrong. I had set the shading image as the normal texture and the edge as a different shade of the same texture.

Now, using what you just told me, will the original texture still come through? Thanks a lot for that advice!

Yeh, those 2 images just affect the shading of the texture underneath. (In the shading one, the more white, the brighter the original texture is shown.)

A smooth cartoon affect can be achieved presumably if you gradient from white to black across the shading image.

Uploading a swf video. Don't be fooled by the download option, you should be able to click download and simply open it and it will open up a new page. I think...

[Edit] I lied... Uploading to youtube.

Another try...

[edit] Sorry for the double post I'm having some weird issues here...

I really like the style of this game, it's awesome!
If you want a simple cartoon shader, let me know. It runs a bit better than the native toon-shading commands and looks better, in my opinion.

Keep up the good work though, it's impressive
