Hi All,

I have recently purchased FPS creator DarkBasicPro via the Bonanza Bundle that TGC currently have on offer, and just had a few silly questions. Being new to all this, I'm sure these questions have probably been answered someplace else in this forum, and if they have than I apologise for repeating them here and would appreciate if you could direct me to them.

Having played commercial games such as Unreal T, Mass Effect, Far Cry, just to name a few, I was very interested to create something of my own. Would FPS creator allow me to create such quality games, or is that only possible through raw programming - like with DBPro?

I have seen many examples of FPSC games within the forum, and nearly all of them are set inside buildings and warehouses etc. Is is not possible to create outdoor environments in FPSC like say a jungle environment with varuious plants and trees and wildlife etc?

I have downloaded the FPSC guide created by NickyDude, but have not fully gone through it yet - would that show me how I can create my own graphics to use within FPSC? I mean, some of the graphics in many of the examples are absolutely brilliant, but surely they are copyrighted and/or from a commercial sources where if used one woudl have to pay royalties - but is there like a tutorial (more of a step-by-step) on how one can create such graphics and players and 3D objects and the like to use in ones own games?

Guys, any direction to useful resources would be most appreciated. And I'm sure that I'll have more stupid and meaningless questions for the FPSC gurus on this forum as i start my quest into FPSC games creation - and I do hope you guys don't mind.

One last question - I have seen FPSCx10 being mentioned also, and have seen the website for that. Is that a better product that the one that i have purchased?

Many Thanks in advance.

FPSC is definitley not up to standards such as Mass Effect, but that isn't to say the program can't make good games (take a look at the BOTB board for instance).

Yep, you'll just need the media for it, as well as a mod to reduce the lag.

Unhelpful Titles

Please do not simply write "Noob Question", "I am a newb", "One Noobie Question", "A question", "Please help", "This isn't working" or anything similar as the title of your post. We have a search facility, and meaningless titles do not help others find answers to their questions. It will also help you to get quicker responses if people have an idea of your thread content.

Welcome To The Forums,

A Mod in FPSC is the FPSC source code edited by a modder, it expands FPSC's ability usally in terms of scripting, but mods like Efx Mod make FPSCX9 look like FPSCX10

Not really, X10 lacks support (though it is getting some now) it cant be modded, it only runs on Windows Vista/7 with DirectX10, plus there is the "Migration" coming, the merging of FPSCX9 and FPSCX10

As for your question regarding the creation of an outdoor oriented environment, such as a jungle, the first thing that came to my mind that you might like to check out is Model Pack 29, you could definitely create a cool game styled after Far Cry if you put some work into it.

Now, as mentioned previously, no you can't make something with quality like those commercial games, however you still can develop a very fun, original and entertaining game with FPSC, with many of it's packs and models available (check out the GC Store, built into FPSC versions 1.09 and up), and imagination too of course. It's all about creativity and seeing what you can accomplish.

Whenever you do buy something, whether it's a model pack, or a few pieces of media off the store, remember it's just like FPSC itself, so you don't have to pay royalties on using the models and so forth. Essentially, buying them is like paying the royalty for using them forevermore. Just don't claim them as your own, or try and re-sell them obviously

Mods, which are just as Vent described, would help you further in creating your game. If you're going for that jungle type game, you'll definitely want to check out a mod that increases your fps rate; that is how many frames per second you're getting during gameplay, the higher fps you have, the less laggy and choppy the gameplay will be. Things that can cause lag in-game are instances such as having a huge map, having too many models, characters, etc. Mods for FPSC such as Fenix Mod, can help give you a better fps rate. Thus, you have the luxury of creating that larger map, populated with more entities and characters. Still, you don't exactly want to go over board.

After playing around with FPSC for a while, you'll get a hang of what it can handle, what your essential limitations are, and so forth. Although, even if you suspect something is a limitation, always just make sure; experiment, get creative, because most things generally are possible.

Hope you have fun man, and don't forget to check out great sites like fpsFREE and fps-files for a plethora of free and useful media.

Cheers

Life would be much easier if I had the source code.

Hey Guyz...

Apologies about not getting back to you sooner to thank you for your responses...My HDD crashed - hence no computer - no FPSC - no nothing
Just using the work laptop for looking at the forums only...should have my system up and running by the weekend - but lets see...

@VENT
Thanks...

@Braden713
Thanks for the lengthy info...once I get the system back up, I'll download the FenixMOD and have a play around with it.

Thanks
