I'm 38, not new to game creation software, but am new to fpsc.

For years, I've been looking for a complete gamemaking package in order to create my own ideas for myself, then play them.

It seems I might have found it.

A few questions.

1) I'm testing fpsc dx9 version on my old comp, as my new one is in the shop getting upgraded.( amd phenom dual core, 400w power supply, ati 4550 512 mb ddr 3( possibly in crossfirex with the onboard graphics---have to see how that works)3gb ram, 500gb hd.)

Question is....should I buy fpsc dx9 version or dx10?

2)I like to " mess" around with texturing, and am a registered owner of milkshape.( but not the world's greatest animator).

How easy is it to modify the textures of the segments? or should i just leave them alone?

3) I don't care about selling any game I make, as whatever I make is for me, and me only....my wife is letting me have 125$ u.s. to spend.

Would fpsc be the creation tool for me?

Thanks for any answers!

1. Get the X9 version. X10 is a dead fish in the water at the moment, due to it being hardware restricted, a performance hog, containing model pack bugs (which i think have been removed through updates) and the source code has not yet been released meaning no mods, such as Project Blue and CorVus Mod which in my opinion make up for what FPSC X10 has to offer.

2. Really easy, you can just replace the texture with your own.

3. It sounds like it would be an appropriate tool for you.

Thanks!

I've got a storyline I've been working on since high school, and I would love to play through it....it was suppossed to be a series of sci-fi/fantasy novels....but i figure playing them would be even better.

Yep, as wizard of id I would also suggest the Bonanza offer on FPSC. Simply a great deal.

Hi, welcome to the forum.

I too, after having fell in love with games like DOOM many years ago, bought FPSC for the same reason. It's been more than four years and I'm still having fun with it almost daily.

I think you'll be happy with X9. There is more media available, (free and paid), many MOD's to choose from, will play on but doesn't require the latest OS/DirectX, and it's easier to customize to you own liking.

Have fun,

Brian.

Welcome to the world of FPSC and to the forums.

VISTA and X10 are dead as it was already mentioned; although, Lee is still supporting so far and trying to fix whatever bugs there are in it.

Brian had started working on models a little while ago and has done a marvelous job. And he has given them for free to the community. A big thank you again, Brian.

Speaking of "giving away," I have been vacillating between selling or giving away free my RPG mod (Role Playing Game). I had sold it to 4 teachers here locally and they were very enthused. However, I am retired and really don't want to mess with the headaches of selling anything anymore. So, I gave them their money back and am planning on releasing it to the community soon. This is the first announcement but I will have an official announcement later.

However, if you are wanting more of a FP shooter game then there are other mods that will fit that bill a little better only in the fact that they have added such things as bloom. Fenix is a very popular one right now and it is also free. Project Blue is one that others like. It is for sale but I don't think it costs all that much. There are others. Some come and some go.

Of course, the additions to FPSC that makes it a better RPG game development tool, does not preclude the fact that it can be used as a shooter game. You can have it in combination with Lee's stock versions. He is upgrading the version all the time and will soon be releasing the first beta for v117.

One more thing to mention. Be sure and get FPI EditPad to help with writing scripts. It is free and can be found on the FPSC download page.
