Hello guys!

i was wondering, how to make massive 3d cool-looking particles? ( like http://rampantgames.com/blog/uploaded_images/gbof_afx-791187.jpg (random pic i found) )

one way to do it is using 2d sprites, but sometimes it can't be 2d, i tried particle system by dgdk but it either sucks or i didnt use it properly

so anyone mind showing me a proper way of using particle system?

The ultimate solution is to use a shader. Green Gandalf posted here all we need:

Look at the attachment in the 9th Dec 2009 00:30 post.

On the other side, in-built particles (dbMakeParticles or something like that) can do simple jobs in many scenaries. They are usually faster to program and faster in performance than object-based custom particle systems.
Four Dimensional posted here a good example of what can they do:
