I thought I'd finally jump on the bandwagon here and start my own 3d model thread. Always good to hear critiques on my work to help improve my skills.

3D Sketch 01:
Spyglass Scene
Model Time: 47m
Texture Time: 2hrs
Render Time: 6s (no joke)
Post Effects: 5m

Notes:
I made this model and scene for the 3d contest over at the United 3D Artists Forum for their speed modeling competition. Took about an hour to plan out what I wanted to model and how I wanted the scene to look. Once I had enough reference images I started to model the spyglass and then the compass. The table and map are basic plane objects. Render was done using the native Truespace raycaster.

Model/Breakdown Images:

Heres the scene file as well for anyone who wants to see how I created it:

Comments a crits very much welcome. Enjoy!

Thanks for the comments! This was actually a lot of fun. Though midway through rendering the first time TS crashed and it took me 20 minutes to figure out what was wrong.

Honestly, I think the metal might be a little to 'wet' looking. I might retouch the scene a bit after the competition is over, maybe add some dirt to the objects, add a bit more objects as well. Need some glasses and some coins would be nice.

Also everything in the scene was made by me except the map, which was one of the first google image searches for "old sea map". Wanted to make sure I gave credit due, though not sure who the original map maker was.
