Greetings all, D13 here from the FPSC side of town. I had made a series of models called Creeps and Freaks about 4 years ago with what little skill I had, and they seemed to be some well liked models, but since then I've learned quite a few things from all my fellow forum members and honed what I could do. Some have suggested that I recreate my old Creeps and Freaks models with what I've learned. I decided to take it one step further and redesign each one with a bit more personality and individuality. Here is a WIP of the first...Dr.Gas2.0

Any Crtiques are welcome. Thanks!

EDIT:download removed, item is now pending in TGC store. I think he had a pretty large grace period of freeness. Thanks to those who got him.

Nice looking model.
Problems i see is that the main chest creases seem to be of a lower resolution than everything else. It might be that whatever you're overlaying in photoshop/gimp (like a cloth image multiplied onto your creases) is making it look that way. It couldn't hurt to throw a little extra geometry and the pockets and the buckles. Ideally they should stick out, but look really flat and a i don't think a normal map probably wouldn't cover it.
Otherwise, some quality texturing skills.

Thanks for the response Oolite! I definitely see what you mean. The cloth folds were made with a brush of my making and it probably was too low quality. Hopefully I can smooth the effect out or I'll have to just recreate the torso texture again. I think you're dead on about the pockets and buckles as well; it wouldn't hurt to have a few extra faces to make them look better. Once again thanks, this is just the kind of critiquing I need. Thanks for the compliment as well.

just a guess: ear polys number > whole model polys number

Thanks.
I'm not sure what your trying to say but if you're asking if the ear polys are more than the entire model, then the answer is no. Front and back of each ear is only 26 tris. I depend primarily on textures to give my models depth for performance sake. I do use FPSC after all, so I need as much performance as I can squeeze out of it.

Nah, it's still a neat model. The texture is a bit... mirrored, but it is still cool. You have definitely improved and I'm sure the redesigned model will be stellar if you continue with it!

Thanks for the praise guys, even for the old one. Here is an update; I haven't updated the texture just yet, nor made the pockets and buckles 3d, but I am in process with that.

Thanks guys. I hope to reproduce all the models in a 2.0 fashion. Useing the same mesh with some changes was the premise behind the Creeps and Freaks models, so when this one is done expect 3 more that have similar body shape but different genre. So definitely look for more. As for the hands, they are very low poly with squared fingers. Here is a wireframe overlay pic. I thank every one for there intrest and comments!

Looking nice man, one thing some areas are a bit grainy and may not be easy to read, especially smaller parts.

Thanks guys! Yeah the basic premis behind him is a psychotic doctor. I suppose he could definitely fit in as a mad scifi doctor. The grainy parts mentioned are where Oolite suggested that I use a higher quality brush for the creases, this will definitely be remedied. I've been digging your work as well Neodelito. The bots are supurb. Thanks all for the comments about the original, I just felt it was too plain. When FPSC first came out there wasn't much in the way of characters, so it was kind of a rush job. Once again thanks all!

Thanks Fuzz. Here is an update. New torso skin with better smother creases. 3D buckles instead of flat texture ones. Unfortunately there was too much distortion for 3D pockets. Now he has legs but still needs a few details like a gastank on his back and tool pouch on his belt.

EDIT: Finished!!! (minus hand weapon)

Thanks guys! This is the basic version that can use any weapon, there will also be a close combat saw or blade wielding version. Soon they will be uploaded to the TGC Store.
