Meh, I'll hop aboard, why not. I'm not trying to show off my work, just wanted to get community criticism and up my practise before I work on my next FPSC pack.

First, I'll be getting all the weapon ideas outta my head as they're really starting to crowd my thoughts.

First off is a simplistic auto shotgun, thanks to Henry Ham for extra criticism.

Here's a screen of it:

(if you want to see different views/angles, tell me)

It is, again, very simplistic, only about 511 polys, I think. I'm thinking of smoothing the barrels a lil' bit. I've got quite a few polys left to kill.

Next I'll probably be working on a knife (which will be fun as I've had vivid imaginations of it) or a pistol. Once weapons are outta my brain, I'll move to environment objects, then vehicles, then maybe (big maybe) characters (which I've only modeled an arm before).

I started a thread on my forums, but it seemed none of my members (which I know three of them in person) truly care about my 3D stuff. Oh well.

Criticism is a MUST. Be very, very harsh! (don't just say it sucks, I mean harsh criticism)

Cheers

Looks nice, maybe except for the handguard part? Looks a little awkward. ALso needs a trigger guard.

stock seems thin at the butt, it should widen slightly to sit against the shoulder comfortably

It's a very neat gun and cool concept. I will agree with the two above me, however. Add a trigger guard, and widen the end or put some type of pad on it.

You say you have some polys to work with, so these should be no problem. You always could smooth out the barrel, but I think with a good texture and normal map, this wouldn't be necessary. I would do the two things mentioned above and possibly add some sights or other details to it. I can't really see the top, but if it is going to be used in an FPS, the top will be seen quite a bit.

Anyways, cool model!!

There's something in this room that makes you can't speak well.

The butt needs to be looked at again, the curve at the back it too harsh, the shoulder doesnt curve too much so i would reduce the curve on that, and i would thicken up the end of it otherwise once you get recoil, your shoulder will be in a fair bit of pain.

@Toasty, what do you mean by 'the handlegaurd'? The handle? I didn't play with it much as I'm trying to imagine the thing in first person.

@Ortu: Yes, good idea with the stock, thank you!

@Cough, alright, I'll work on a trigger gaurd thing.

@Asteric, yeah, the butt was a real... well, butt to me and was hard to mess with. I'll try though!

Anyways, I've been trying to get an idea of the UVmap as I've been eager to see how it would turn out, but it's not going to well.(just lettin' you know)

Sorry for the bump, I decided the shotgun was crappy and moved on to something that would round some other useful skills instead. It's like a Sci Fi AK (47, 74, or S, don't really know) with a SOPMod and Scope. It was just for practice and I did not pay attention to the polys (which turned out to be 1880 or so). I'm planning on texturing the SOPMod and Scope and will release them for free on my site...

Anyways, some screens. I'm still feeling very unsure about the model as it seems very odd as if I'm missing some details (I turned on Realtime Mirroring so that you can see other details - this did not affect the polys!).

And 2nd one:

I work very fast which I hate. This one took me about 3 hours which is like the average amount of time I take on most gun models. Texturing takes a lot longer.

C&C = a MUST!

Thanks

may i use that gun you have just modeled in 3 hours in a commercial video game im making? it looks perfect for a tech demo where your shooting targets. you will be given credit in the full game as well as the tech demos i pump out at different times.

It looks like a mix between, an AK & M4 the only thing is that the stock looks odd with the big round part, other than that I like it

Yeah the stock was sort of a mess up and was built to test certain boolean properties and wasn't meant to be seen in first person.

Absolutely. If you pay me 2 dollars, I will fully texture it for you. If not, it's free un-textured. That's just how I work, I apologise if you don't like it. I do accept trades as well.

Does that AK look any good? Because I've been looking at other modelers and it seems I've some improvement room...

Yeah its nice but doesnt really resemble an AK much, especially the receiver or what not, take a look at mine, even that isnt very accurate.

Well, thoughts like that crowding your head may indicate the need to shift your views on methods that actually solve issues... but:

Where's the railguns? Howabout one with spinning magnets trying to look like a magnetically enhanced generator? (though they either balance out or work-but-get-hidden-for-some-reason-probably-by-Ford-like-Keely-or-Tesla-inventions, but in sci fi it doesn't matter)

Or adding curvey appendages indicating new methods of propulsion.

Why use bullets? Boeing uses water to cut parts from metal. Solar-powered lasers? (horribly weak in RL, I know... but the idea would be funny)

In other words, where's the sci fi stuff? Shouldn't the optical enhancement be free from the gun, like in the newer First Person shooters?

Just my thoughts while I'm here...

Alright, I'll work on the texture this weekend. But my gun is honestly not nearly as good as Henry Ham's shotgun, go find his 2010 models thread.

@Feiting Shadow: I like your idea of how my thoughts function. I also liked reading your post lol, very interesting.

also if i was to give you the Scar Varient, want me to make it FPSC ready and give you also the original file as a .max? as well as the textures you would need?

and your models are not bad, i find them really nice actually!

Sure I could, depends on what hands you want rigged to it. But a better rigger/animator in my opinion is General Jackson. I'd say I'm as good as him, yet don't have as much time because I have a very busy life. And also, I can't open MAX files as I do not have or use 3D Studio Max.

So think about who you want to rig it for you, keep in mind if you choose me, I may never get around to it or finish it.

Anyways, I'll work on the texture now, what do you want it to be like? (color, lightness, condition of the gun, etc)

Cool. That means it's sci-fi for sure

Defiler, I've actually decided I'd texture it and release it to the public for free as I don't really need $2 I'm planning on redoing my SCAR I made for Primordial (check the thread to see the SCAR rigged to EAI hands).
