Can anyone tell me what all of these types of light are? It'd be really helpful.

Thanks.

Not sure that's what you mean but in modeling terms...

Diffuse; The amount of light scattered across a surface.

Ambient; The general tone of colors on an overall surface.

Emissive; The strenght of light over the surface but independent of it's normals.

Specular;A fake reflection of the light based on the normals.

In directX programming,I don't have a clue,sorry.

If you want to mess with them on models just to see how the different light types affect the model then i suggest getting anim8or from anim8or.com and playing with the material editor. I tried to use these effects to create a toon shading type of effect, but the problem is that theres no shadow and highlight on models, meaning that these cnt really be used for that. Just thought id tell you.
