I was told to use DGDK because of my pat experience in C++. However, the syntax in DarkGDK is really confusing me. I don't know how to start.

Start with the tutorials in the GDK folder. Then get a idea about a game (or whatever) and try...

if Microsoft can sell software with bugs, so can I.

There is one that was advertised in a newsletter and may still be available on Amazon:

http://gdk.thegamecreators.com/data/newsletter/newsletter_issue_77.html#10

However, I think Dark GDK can be learned by following the tutorials (even the Dark Basic Pro tutorials can help sometimes), experimenting with the commands and reading the forums.

If you already have an idea what you would like to do but you get stuck with it, you can always ask here.

P.S. Apart from the tutorials, you can have a look at the Dark GDK coding challenges thread which has sadly died out already:

http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&b=22&t=150933&p=0

This contains little programs which should be easily understandable (well, some are more difficult than others) and get you started somewhere. You can even try implementing a challenge task yourself and then see what others made of it.

The tutorials installed with Dark GDK are here: Start menu, Programs, The Game Creators, Dark GDK folder. There you have access to documentation, samples and tutorials. These can also be found in the file structure, in default installation it is c:\Program Files\The Game Creators\Dark GDK\ and then the same subdirectories: documentation (the help, which is a list of available commands), tutorials or samples.

The Dark Invaders tutorial is available in video format as well:

Daniel started a video serial which does not have much info yet for Dark GDK, but for example, I liked the frogger game tutorial for DB Pro and it would be quite a nice starting challenge to try to do something similar in Dark GDK. I think he will make the corresponding video sooner or later, in the meantime you can try for yourself.

It is true that more tutorials can be found for DB Pro than Dark GDK but nevertheless, you can get started.
