Is their any reason why I couldn't store say 30 variables in the registry? The reason I ask is that my game really only needs permanent storage for the high score table, and I think I'd just rather store the names and scores in the registry?

BTW, I hear that with Window's XP Home, applications under "Program Files" cannot write to ANY file in the "Program Files" tree. Where are you supposed to write files now?

Use INI files - for a start, they dont use the registry (allows very easy transfer over to other computers).

In addition, if you use my INI plug-in, it can write to a special area (that only I know of), but allows global access.

You don't even need to use ini files for 30 variables.
Just write them to the file and read them in the reverse order. You might also want to look at using some form of simple encription
Also look at the load/save array commands.

I can write files to the windows xp home programs files directory using programs in it. If the user doesn't have permission to write to program files how are they going to install your program there in the first place?
