No you can not get the textures because they are copyrighted...

What you are thinking of doing is illegal should you release the game....

But you can make textures of your own, similiar to City17s ones.

Ofc you could ask the company if you could use their textures. They sometimes will say yes as they tend to let ppl mod HL and maybe they will let you use them for non-commercial use.

Go onto the half life 2 menu, copy the first chapter of the game and paste it into FPS Creator. Best way, but watch out for them copyright laws .

A majority of the textures are from cgtextures.com and are free to use.
However, the scale of the city would be an issue, and lets not forget about copyrights.

Yeah I'm pretty sure Takar was kidding.

Also, I wanna make a viEO gAmmme dats werth lyke twinty belliun dollerz cun sum1 h3lp meh plz!??

Man...no one can tell you "how" to create a game/level. It relies on you to gather/create the resources then assemble it all together.

Start with cgtextures.com.

AaronG is right. Check cgtextures.com even Half-Life, CoD: Modern Warfare like big games uses it as their source. I bet you can find lot of stuff there.

It means that you stop posting before a flame war occurs.

On Topic - While it's an interesting idea, I can't see it working out too well. The scale of the city, the number of NPCs that would be in it, heavy scripting. It sounds like an impossible task.

But by all means. If you want to indulge yourself and give it a go. Valve might let you use their textures (ones that they made themselves) if you send them an email - They seem quite big on letting the community make mods and such on their engine.

City 17? Easy. First, buy a copy of Project Blue to increase your performance and scripting abilities. Next, check out the TGC store for city entities and segments. From then on, build up your city, starting with roads, then pavements, then grassy areas, and finally buildings and other detail entities. Then find a city skybox online or one on these forums and use it in your game. Finally, place a big light above the level to act as the sun.

good tutorial, marc steene. you're helpful.

I may also add- city 17 in HL2 had a cleanish feeling outside. it was nice, and looked beautiful. perhaps use a country skybox with a nice blue sky, then for buildings, try making re-textures and re-sizes of mp36 and other buildings. try to sstick to neutral whites that look generally clean for the building walls, and perhaps some brownish paneling for arouind the floor and roofs. good luck

Yep, and you can do that with any game. Hit ctrl-c after the level has loaded , then alt-tab over to FPSC and hit ctrl-V while in the editor. Viola!

Anyways for some actually useful info you would have to model the entire level in a program (from scratch) or do each individual entity (from scratch) use textures (created by you) and then you could actually import it, it would be long staggering and probably not really worth it...as there is already a half-life 2 and this would not be a remake really worth it just graphically downgraded along with game play.

To remake the city itself you could use a free Model Pack FPSC released on its website.

As for the textures, I have no clue.

I actually once considered making a Halo game in FPSC called:

Halo: Combat Devolved

LoL, nice names. I would have named L4D2 like this; "Damn, I'm Left 4 Dead 2" You get it? Like too=2?

But I think this would be possible. The cuíty wouldn't obviously be as big as the real thing, but it would be some fun.

Rant;

Personally, i'd attempt to make most of the senery with a skybox?
+ model pack 31 + 36 would make quite a nice rundown city,

Thats just how'd i would go about it.

I guess you could graphically add the citadel to the skybox like Rolfy did with his ship in Eldora 2.

The point isn't to make this game the same as HL2, just a personal challenge to test your limits, and discover your full potential.

One piece at a time. Can you draw?

I was thinking (dangerous - I know) that if someone were to draw up a city, and I were to make one of the buildings, and somebody else were to make another, and then someone else made a fence or a road, and someone else made another part...

Nah. It'd never work. But you could do it yourself one piece at a time. Otherwise, you'll just have to use what's already available and settle for that.

Ah I remember back in the old days stuff like this would happen with big projects and things, I would love to do something like this.

You may use a 3D Modelling program to make city than you can import it. But then there would many collision problems...

And i'm not a noob i'm using fpsc since 2006.

Not if you know how.Avoiding werid shapes, exporting the city piece by piece like trashcan, tree ect. Then simply place it in FPSC.

'stonemason' provides the ultimate in urban textures and his stuff can be found at daz and some great stuff at dexsoft all nicely priced.
Use Deleds editor to construct most of your city.
If you make your scenery buildings as boxes the x file size is about 2kbs. Do the maths i.e. one hundred buildings to surround your city = about 200kbs compared to the existing urban buildings in fpsc which are each megabytes.
Export as x file and make a new fpe file
use transparency to create empty deserted look
Use signs program to create walls from other textures, brick, alley, fence etc.
I used deled to create a whole city with battle tanks for darkbasic
http://forum.thegamecreators.com/?m=forum_view&t=161151&b=10
I'm working on the same idea now for fpsc9 one big ruined city with lots of gameplay.
heres an example of how textures will look - black space being transparent
