Is there a way to play MP3s or AVIs in the middle?

I am looking at converting a Jukebox type application over from Visual Basic to Visual C++ 2008 with Dark GDK, since the 3d effects would make it look nicer.

However, for audio books and movies it would be really handy to be able to save your place in the file and then be able to start playing from that location again.

Is there a way using the dark gdk to:

1) See what your play position is in the file.
2) Start playing from a specified position?

Thanks!

Any thoughts? I'm guessing by the silence that Dark GDK can't handle this...

What about using the Windows Media GDK? Does it seamlessly integrate with Dark GDK?

Am I better of sticking with Visual Basic?

Not that I am aware of. Your best bet would be to look into DirectX documentation. They have some excellent samples as well for media players. But you will have to get the hang of using native DirectX.

My only other suggestion would be to look into going back to a managed language VB.NET/C# using XNA, VC++ CLR using managed DirectX.
