Sounds good. I wouldn't mind seeing a MOD that only increases the frame rate, but the extra life sounds interesting too.

Brian.

ok, the mod is in the first post to download, the extra life works but It needs work, so give me a day to explain how to set it up. all you will need to do is when you are building your game in the editor put in a pickup, any object will do as long as you have the pickup script added to the main. then name that object health pickup. then you will have an extra life. but like i said, this wont work tonight, it works for me but it does not show it on the screen, so this is what i need to fix. everything else works though. make shure you are using upgrade 15 or 16.

Nice framerates, even on my larger levels. Averaged 50-55. If I could make a suggestion so you won't be fielding tonnes of questions and such. You may want to make your explanation a bit "newby-friendly". In that, I mean like the following:

1. Place object, such as a health pack, and name it "Health Pickup"

2. Assign the "pickup1.fpi script to the main ai script field

And so on. Otherwise, you may find people will be confused. You have to approach your descriptions like people don't know anything to save yourself time and energy.

Great start so far.

Cheers

Nice going Daniel,

I was wondering when somebody was going to make a simple mod to increase the frame rate. It what I am after.

The other mods look good also, but too many things may mean things will go wron when building the game.

I am also after better texturing. eg shaders, I believe that is coming in 1.17. Improved lighting anyone.

I will test a level and let you know if the FPS has improved.

There is a framerate increase.

Is this mod meant only after you have built a game? Then replace the file with yours?

I tried to use your mod to test a level, rather than build a game and it froze the computer up.

What would the purpose of a mod, if it can only be used once you have built a game?

Okay, I understand you know.

I built a game, replaced the game file with yours

Got better frame rate, tha't's the good news.

The not so good news I got a an illegal mesh error. Not with a build with the non modded way.

More fps is possible if you change the Cap to 0 or the max is not hard and not impossible.

changing the cap tp 0 will make your games verry choopy and do some bad things to your animations. what i have it set to right now is almost perfect for large levals.

Here's a real quick banner I threw together in 5 seconds.

Not too good, but I think it's better than no banner.

"And we played the first thing that came to our heads...Just so happened to be... the best song in the world...

it was the best song in the world..."

Okay. Understandable. I mostly wanted to try out different blur effects.

Looking good. I think I'll wait until you get a "stable" version; right now you seem to be adding in a lot of stuff in a short amount of time. When things slow down a bit I'll download it for sure.

ok, so becouse I am plaining on making this mod as light as possible I am only including simple ideas, why add this becouse I want my banner to be light looking, like the one up now makes the mod fell lighter. there will be 10 difrent changes, 4 are now compleate. so this is what i have decided. to start a banner compittion. ill give anyone who wants to play along 3 days to make a real good banner like the one above. who ever i choose will win all my modles and modle packs on my website. anyone can join in, display your banners here. today is 2\12\2010

Daniel, I dl'd your mod. Sounds good and just what I would like, however, I may have a unique problem. I cannot get the thing to run. I am running ver 1.16 on an older machine (emachine w3050 nvidia geforce4, 1 gig ram amd sempron 3000+ processor with winXP SP2). When executing the game, my loading screen displays and then when it looks as though the game is about to begin I receive this cute little error message
(Runtime Error 118 array does not exist or array subscript out of bounds at line 15077)
any idea what's happening?
no hurray with your answer

did you put the mod only in your already built game folder to use? if so then it sounds as your having a gun sound problem. did it run ok with out the mod? if so ill look into it for you.

I used the MOD on a previously built level (Caper City) that I have put on hold because of size and speed issues. There are places in the level where the FPS would fall to single digits with vanilla FPSC. I wanted to see how much the MOD would improve that issue.

With your MOD installed, the level begins with 60FPS which is good, but it's too fast. The player seems to be running when walking. I could live with that.

The FPS did not get much below 26 in the areas that had problems before, but at 26FPS the MOD was obviously straining. It said 26, but felt much worse in the game, more like half of that. At 26, it should be nearly smooth but wasn't at all. I don't know the source so I have to ask. Did you enhance any code to make the frame rate better, or did you lift the cap? I have used other MODs and found the frame rate was improved "across the board" without just speeding up the player.

I also don't understand your third item in the MOD description.
Quote: "3.build hugh levals."

If this is a MOD that is dropped into a built game, how does it "build huge levels" or am I missing something?

I haven't tried the "extra life" thing. I was mainly concerned with the FPS increase to see if it would help my ailing game. Thanks for the test.

Brian.

@xplosys, hello friend

Ok, this all depends on how big the leval is, I cant make every leval perfect unless im building it myself, this mod is still being perfected and will take a little more time, I did not just cap off the frame rate, as i implimented a timmer based coad to speed up the frame rates, im looking into slowing down the animations of the plr today. 2 things i have learned so far is not to group a large ammount of enimys together in one place. to spread them around a little here and there. Im rewriting the whole frame rate code from the original to mine, so thre will be no vanilla FPSC sync code, just a rewriten piece, I hope this helps.give me another week here and i think I will have something you will love.

as for building huge levals what i meant is you can build huge levals becouse i have implimented more code to handle this, I do plan on making the mod so you can use it in test game with more fetures.

Sounds good. Take your time and don't make it too much like work. I think keeping it simple and not trying to add too many things is a good idea. Best of luck with it and I'll be watching for the the next download.

Daniel, sorry for lack of detail. I dropped the mod into the folder with the original game executable. I tried both ways, running the game with the original game build exe and then with yours. The game runs with the org but I get the stated error message when I execute with the mod. As for the gun sounds, no problem (though I had to manually put the audio files in, (not because of your mod)FPSC quit compiling the gun audio files a few days ago prior to me trying your mod so not to worry 'bout that
thanks in advance for your time,
merlin

do you have the free version of fpsc? the reason i ask is becouse The free version will not transfer all of your files into your built games. It never did for me when i was testing the free version out, The reason i tested it out was becouse i lost my fpsc disc, but just resently they gave me a compleate download for fpsc in my order history, so ever sence i installed the bought version everything works right now.

Yes, I am indeed using the free version. started with 1.15 and of course it would not let me build the game at all because it was the trial or whatever, but when I downloaded the upgrade to 1.16 and installed, the the build menu started working for me. Thought I got lucky but guess not. However, the game runs fine from the stand alone FPSC vanilla exe but only on my 1st machine, not on any others. anyway it still seems that your mod should work with my built game. It appears from the forum that I am the only one experiencing this so don't fret about it. I guess it is because I am using the free version. thanks for responding and best to you with your new mod.
